So I was at home depot today and noticed that they had two different types on display. I wonder if they were perhaps getting rid of old stock.

Anyways, could you guys tell me which ratchet is better?

Ratchet #1

- 5 position telescopic handle
- 7 position flex head
- Handle spins/rotates (does not lock in place - could be annoying when trying to apply pressure to a fastener)

Ratchet #2
- 5 position telescopic handle
- 5 position flex head
- Handle locks in place

The first one is the older design, I haven't used the newer ones but the older type was only ok at best.

FYI,

I have not used these exact ratchets but a friend had a set of black husky ratchets from home depot and they were the biggest pieces of **** tools I have ever used, they all were broken in some way or another. I don't mean to sound like a tool snob but they really sucked.

Why do you guys hate this type of ratchet? Wouldnt it be a wise thing to have in ones toolbox as its expendable and has a flex head?

Because it's a poorly constructed ratchet. In theroy it's not a bad idea but its not built to a very high standard

Unnecessary. They make this stuff called "pipe". When slid over the handle of your breaker bar, you aren't supposed to do this to your ratchet, (wink!), it becomes a " cheater pipe". It works well, and then you can get your major name brand tool replaced under warranty when it breaks, HD might want a receipt.:lol_hitti
