I found a whole set of 1/2" drive deep well impact sockets at my local Pawn Shop made by Husky. I'm wondering:
1. any good?
2. who makes them?
3. pass/fail?

I looked at them and there is no country of origin or much of anything for that matter; all the stamping I can see is "husky" and the size! They do have a "flank drive" style design; so, I am assuming these to be relatively current models; I think these are not old school Husky but probably Home Depot era units. My first thought is they are Stanley but i don't know if Husky stuff is still OEM'd by them. Any experiences with these or opinions about their quality, appreciated!
Here is a link to the sockets; http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...02357&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&langId=-1

I believe Home Depot owns Husky and I'd be willing to bet they are made in China. However, most of the Husky stuff comes with a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" nowadays. I think they're kinda mid-grade tools. They're pretty good, but certainly not the best. Also, some of their tools seem to be better than others. My dad has a torque wrench from them and it's pretty nice. I like it.

Questions of this sort make me wonder of the demographics of posters here... One person who is a light do it yourselfer might say they are great, had mine for years(only use them once a year to change tires, but their great) And another who makes a living with the tools would say they are not worth the gas to drive to Home Dmart to pick them up. Nothing wrong with either person. Basically you get what you pay for, how much are you going to use them? That will justify whether or not one should spend $20 for a set or $200.

Husky tools are made by Stanley Tools who also make Bkachhawk and Mac tools . When I boutght my Husky bottom toolbox I had to call to get keys and the phone was answerd Stanley Tools. I have 2 sets of Sunnex impact sockets that are great . Used to use them everyday when I had to supply my own tools at my old jobs.

maybe I've just got too stong of notions about box store stuff... I just can't stand walmart or home depot and the like. I guess if they got someplace decent to make their stuff its probably OK...

Might as well buy HF ones, about the same thing. I wouldn't pay alot for them, they are probably ok. I had some Husky USA ones that were good, but that was then. Cornwell makes the best impact sockets I ever had! Craftsman ones are not bad. SO ones are soft! not worth the money.

Are the sockets good, not hogged out or rounding?
Is the price less than half of retail? Or way below what you can expect to see them on sale for?

Even HF sockets impact sockets will hold up a long time. Husky would do better based on Stanely's standards.

It's not the demographics, it's the feelings.

Feelings about stores, whatever are just that, feelings.

I'm only interested in the tool itself, not the color, race, creed, socio-economic status or even the name over the door of the store of the seller.

I don't care if I buy it from a box store, swap meet, tool truck, e-bay, pawn shop, back of a mule. If it's a good tool at a good price I like it. If it's a bad tool or a bad price, I ain't gonna buy it.

You can go to walmart and buy the same sockets in a yellow plastic case for pretty cheap IIRC. Honestly, for the quality, just go to harbor freight. HF and the Stan-ree sockets are all going to be made in china in the same prison or sweatshop, just buy the cheapest ones possible.

Does anyone have any idea how long Husky tools has been around? I found a Husky socket in tool collection from my grandfather.

The question is how cheap are they at the pawn shop? I think Mao Mart sells the Stanley versions for about $20. I think the Homee Depot sells the new Husky set for like $50. Unless the pawn shop is selling them for 50 cents a socket, I would grab a Craftsman set when they're on sale for half off and have piece of mind. As others have said before, Grey Pneumatic and Sunex are also quality imported impact sockets. Unless the price is right, there are better options out there.

Husky was at one time its own company. I have REALLY old 12-point husky sockets. When I broke one, I called because I obviously did not have the receipt and they gave me the Stanley tools number. When I called them, left 3 messages and no reply!

Husky tools are not bad but the quality has taken a dive as of late and they also want your receipt if one breaks. I think you are better off with a craftsman set personally.

Not very many years ago the Husky impact sockets HD sold said USA plainly on the side of them. I worked part time at HD about 6-7 years back and I was there when my store began clearancing the Husky USA metric deep impacts, I bought I think 12 pieces for something like $20 clearance price. I have not seen many/any quality sockets sold there since they clearanced the last of that good stuff to make room for the **** they unloaded off the boat.
To answer the question if the Husky deep impacts plainly say USA on them, they are of the old good stuff. Nuff said.

If the price is right and you can use them buy them. I've done this and if I break one I buy a quality tool. Some sizes I hardly ever use and other sizes I use frequently. Look for Proto Cornwell or SK
when your in a pawn shop and gradually fill in sizes you normally use a lot.

Most of the stuff was USA made. I remember this because my home garage is all Husky stuff bought at HD on clearance.
