I recently got a Husky 268 piece Mechanic's Tool Set, and have been quite impresed with the quality and mix of tools . Not much mention of Husky Hand Tools here. Anyone else use or consider buying Husky Tool Sets? The HD warranty for Husky tools is top notch.

I also did a youtube review.

You'll find spotty reviews of HD warranty service for Husky tools if you search.

Many of the Husky tools that used to be made by Stanley are now made by Apex Tools. I can see in your set that you have the Apex Tools ratchet.

Yes, these are the new Apex Line of Tools, which also owns GearWrench, Armstrong, Crescent and others.

HD sent me a new Plastic Box, even though the damage was caused by the UPS Delivery Man dropping the 40 lb package from waist high.

I bought a ratcheting handle with bits. It was junk. Kept auto reversing. There tool bags are top notch though. I see the being used a lot in pro field service and my own bag has held up well.

Are they US? I thought Husky had left our shores...

The Mechanic's Tool Sets are made in China, but quality of the new Apex Line is very good. Seems on par with GearWrench. Might even be rebranded GearWrench.

Does it say China or Taiwan?

The set I bought recently that was made by Apex said it was made in Taiwan.

You will be seeing a lot of husky tools brand new in the box pretty soon at your favorite reseller. I seen pallet after pallet of husky mechanics tools at my distributor, evidently they are changing packaging colors or supplier. A little too steep for me at $1500/ pallet.

The 268 piece set says China. As with Sears, all HD stores carry individual ratchets, sockets and wrenches. I've never had a warranty issue, but HD employee's have told me they will replace any defective piece with no hassel.

I've been using Husky Metric wrenches for about 2 months now daily at work. And they have been working well. I almost bought their socket sets but decided to get Gearwrench stuff.

I use some of their stuff. I don't have a problem with the hand tools and I do buy some husky storage stuff (document bags, cases, etc), no problems with that stuff. Some of the other stuff not so good (i.e. multi tools and assorted rebranded stuff). I was looking at some of their wrench sets the other day. Quality looks on par with what craftsman has nowadays but without using them I don't know off hand. They're selling a set of something like 20 combo wrenches for like 20 bucks seems like an okay deal for home use.

Just bought a t handle set that I won't really use because I had store credit from something else. I prefer kobalt hand tools to this stuff though the price is somewhat higher at lowe's.

The problem with that is that their selection is somewhat limited if you buy a set that has non-standard stuff. I don't think they sell individual impact sockets (I don't recall ever seeing them) in store. Lowe's does. Not that they won't replace it but it might be a p.i.t.a. to get a replacement.

Some of the stuff is pretty stout in my opinion especially the taiwan stuff. They have a us made torque wrench too but at the price point (depending on warranty) might as well just buy a cdi one.

There is a lot of difference between spending 20 for a wrench set or 200 or way more. If you aint got it then its foolish not to buy it if you need it?????????? How wrong can you go? Its not hard to make back 20$ with a wrench set.

I think the tools at HD have taken a step forward while lowes has stepped back. The new ratchets a HD seem good and the flex head version has a lower profile than the Kobalt. And you still have a decent USA channellock and Klein selection to go with it. I just picked up a 3/8 torque wrench from HD $75 and looks identical to the $300 Matco.

I have several older Husky USA ratchets as I often find them at local fleas and garage sales for next to nothing.

In many folk's eyes just another "disposable" tool brand, especially now with the off shore production.

The Husky ratchets I have are old Stanley/New Britian USA units that work just fine.

Stay on the lookout.
They are out there if you want to grow your set. :)

Being made in US does not automatically make tools better. I much prefer the new Husky 72 gear ratchets over my older Craftsman USA 24 and 30 gear ratchets.

Absolutely, the Sears ratchet has been a sorry spot for decades, absolutely stupid not to fix it. The world is a different market place than it was even over my short career. Used to be held hostage to a few stores, now can go in and get anything needed to sustain modern life under one roof 24/7 including some serviceable tools. Even box/home stores are open most waking hours.

Used to be a couple tool trucks or order from Sears catalog if and when they got to it. And Sears price was higher then. Auto Parts was an SK dealer and have one that still might be? Had to leave a ratchet for 2 weeks to get it serviced. Now days they hand a new one in a minute.

Even some generic or mid brand USA tools are cheap, in todays world would be looking at the low priced end vs the hi. If a guy cant make it for a while with a HF or Stanley set of torx bits he isn't out much and the ifs are far between while the fear and worry remain hi.

Yep.
:)

Metal selector and metal QR button on my Husky's. Bet your's are plastic.
Hmmm....

Never in any way, shape or form said they were better but I bet what I have will out-live you and me both.

As Yoda would say, "Oh, so much to learn you have."

Welcome to GJ.

Revival of the dead. I know in the review you said the 1/2" sockets are 12 point. What about 1/4" and 3/8" sockets though?

amen. I have a Husky extendable locking flex that's been a really good ratchet. I've beat on that thing harder than my other ratchets because I didn't care if it broke and it's taken everything I've thrown at it. fairly low profile too
