Husky Socket observation- shallow detent notches

While I'm still determining the best way to photograph what I'm talking about, I thought it would be good to start the conversation.

After purchasing some locking socket extensions at HF, I initially thought they were poorly made, as they didn't hold the sockets from my 10+ yr old 3/8 Husky sockets. However, the extensions work on every other brand I own (Taiwanese and USA Kobalt, USA and China Craftsman, GearWrench and even a discontinued NAPA set).

Then I looked at a 1/4 Husky set and it has the same shallow notches.

Does anyone have an idea why they would deviate from such a standard cut? The extensions have already proven themselves with the low intensity demand I put on them, so I'm happy with the purchase.

I've seen this same issue on 1/4" Wright metric set (some sockets in that set had no detents at all) and an SK 1/4" metric set. On the SK's some sockets had nice deep uniform indents and on others you could see that they barely scratched the surface.

I've never seen or owned Husky sockets.

Not sure what to tell you other than "it happens"... :dunno:

If they were New Britain made Husky sockets the error you note does not surprise me. When I worked there the ball grooving was done on two of the oldest and most dilapidated turret lathes I have ever seen in a production environment. I base this comment on 50+ years in production engineering positions with nine different companies.

Some USA Husky and USA Kobalt, some USA Craftsman all have the half hearted detents.
