Husky Tool Box Problems

I picked up a Husky 52" toolbox. I really like it except one thing. When I unlock it the latch rocks back an 1/8 of a turn which allows the drawers to open but only half way. It's obnoxious as hell. Anyone encountered this and come up with a solution? I haven't had the time to troubleshoot at all but I don't imagine that I'm the only one with this box or this issue.

Sorry to bump but I invested a fair amount of money into this box and made some really cool modifications to it in order to make it better but this key semi-relatching is irritating as hell. Anyone experienced this?

Most people here opt to buy the Harbor Freight 44" tool box instead of this Husky box. The HF box is built much better.

However try pulling out your top drawer and investigating the problem. On the sides of the drawer slides you will find a plastic drawer release lever, when the drawer is fully extended.

Huskys are made by a whole slew of different companies and some are much better than others. Some boxes are just **** and there may be no easy way of fixing it "right".
Something in the latch system in the back of the box must be binding and not allowing the latches to fully retract. All the drawers are going to have to be removed and then when you turn the key back and forth, maybe you can spot it.

You just need to get in there and get er done. If its used, something is probably worn out, loose or bent/broken. Did you check the locking mechanism where you insert the key? If it's the same one I'm talking about, there is a thin nut on the back side that holds the lock in place. Perhaps that nut is loose and causing the entire mechanism to pivot a bit due to the weight of its new position. Wish I could help more. Good luck.

I bought it new in October of last year. A lot of people at my old job had the husky's and loved them so when I got my new box that's what I went for. It was after I'd already got it that I started reading more here and I do wish that I'd opted for the HF equivalent all things considered. I'll pull the drawers and figure it out, only thing stopping me from having done that already is that it's my work box and I have been too busy at work go deal with it.

I'll pull the drawers and see what I can see next weekend probably.
