I have a Southbend 9a mounted on an old military single drawer table.
I've been looking at the Home Depot Husky 46" 9 drawer tool chest to set it on, mostly for the rigidity not so much for storage capacity. Also looking at the Yukon from Horrible Freight but it's only 18" wide compared to Husky 24". $160 cheaper (w coupon) but I would need to install a bracket on the back to hold the motor.
Thoughts?
Please don't suggest Snap-On, Mac, etc... I wouldn't mount a lathe on any of those!

Bad idea, the vibrations will slowly kill it. I personally couldn't tolerate the movement the casters would give it while under power.

Vibration will slowly kill the lathe or the chest? It's a LOT beefier than the table I've been using the last 9 years I've had the lathe! In fact, I installed wheels on the thing. (after bracing the legs a little)

I have my small lathe mounted on a HF 41" box and it works great. Love it.

I have also seen people make tube steel frames around the, boxes which is cool but in my case was not needed.
The benefits of the storage the box provides is great and at the same time the weight of the tooling aids the stability. Mine does not move a bit under use

You can add a steel plate to the top. You will probably be surprised by the difference that makes. Those small light lathes lack rigidity and mass. Adding a steel plate adds both and makes a real difference to its use. You will get smoother operation. 1/2 inch or 3/8 plate the full length of the leather and at least 3 or 4 inches wider will do and the top of the box can take it especially if you add some spreader plates under the box top. Good luck.
