I have one of those Husky tool box benches with the wood top. The 48" one or whatever size the narrower of the two is. I've been happy with it and have no problems.
If I was buying a new tool chest I'd check out a couple different types in person and see what I like best in my price range. I've seen some that the boxes look like they're built ok but the sliders **** or the drawers don't stay shut and are always opening on their own.

Absoluty NOT.

I have that Husky, purchased 4yrs ago @ $199/ea. Its definitely not a pro level box. **** slides, thin gauge steel, poor casters.

It works for my light usage needs, but my Equipto storage system (similar to Lista) is superior in every way.

These were around $300_350 (been a while) each with military discount. If they had been $200, probably would have ended up with 4 and stacked them.

I bought one as a cheap spare box for home and ended up getting another for work.
The work box has held up great, to where several other guys bought them too.
Do wish the red was an option to match at home, but whatever.

I've got better things to do than argue, but they are same design, thickness, etc as my 4 Snap On boxes. Drawers slide nicer too, especially the heavy ones loaded with 1/2 and 3/4" sockets and ratchets.

I used to run a tool room with millions in tools and equipment. I'd have no issue specing those Husky boxes for tool kits.

Even if not quite as tough as a 5 figure box, big deal. Can by 20 of them.

The bench cabinets are Lista. Paid around $300 for the pair at DRMO.

My Snap On box does that. Have to either slam it or push it closed, then it's a pain to open. It's got those crappy slide locks and the slides have some sort of detent.
I've replaced several slides, which aren't cheap, and it made no difference.
The small box and side box were brand new and same issue. Small box is rarely used, just has overflow.

Came very close to it tipping from the 7.2 earthquake in 2018. Many of the drawers came open. Luckily many of my tools weren't put away so the drawers were light.

I work on heavy equipment. It's loaded fairly heavy with big tools. The one at home is mostly empty.

They are on par with my Snap On boxes.
Are those Heritage Series (KRA) Snap-On boxes? If so, I could see the difference between the two not being as great as one would expect. I have a 26" Williams top box that looks to be a Williams badged KRA4014. It's not a bad box, but it doesn't seem to be a whole lot better than some of my HF boxes and carts. Can't say I was totally surprised seeing how it's their cheapest line and the specs are nothing too exciting.

You make a good point. Some of these older truck brand boxes are very basic, but built well. Sure the Husky matches in spec, ball bearing slides, similar gauge steel, shiny paint, casters.

But 20-30yrs down the road I would wager the truck brand boxes will fare better, have support, and better resale.

Hey I dont even own SO, Mac, etc... but it shouldnt be confused when a entry level box like the Husky gets compared to anything the truck brand guys are building today as "on par".
-------

Im not arguing that they are bad boxes, ****, I own two. At $200/ea it was a steal. But they arent great boxes, not even HF quality.

My Husky boxes:
_ dont fully extend without yanking out the last 2-3"
_ pull out unevenly
_ def dont like being fully loaded and cycled everyday

I don't recall. Was going to check but the label is on the back and I've stuff in the way to move it.

I gave $1000 for the top and bottom around 2003. Side cab was free from work.... was getting thrown out because the box it went to got smashed.

Maybe the Husky boxes I have are different than yours? They were on sale for around $350 each when I bought them in 2019.
The slides are almost the same as Snap On slides. I've replaced dozens of those over the years (managed a tool room, we had lots of Snap On boxes)

I'm happy with them and they hold my tools fine, so that's what counts.
After all, the toolbox isn't making me money!

I been working out of tool boxes for over 30 years and the box is helping you earn money, it keeps you organised, mobile if needed, worktop/countertop area that highly useful in modern settings where you using more test equipment/computers .
About best lowish price box store toolbox I seen hold up is Masterforce followed by US General and even they don't match proper pro boxes.
My old matcos done over 2 decades, Husky didn't make 2 years .
Just about everyone I seen using Husky mention same on sagging drawers and soft close slide issues, matte paint also not as durable as earlier HD that gloss black .

Mine are gloss black.

Dunno. Mine is 2 years old, used daily. It still looks new either than where someone oversprayed orange paint across it. Came back after a few days gone and found it like that.

I got a Husky box about 5 years ago, Shiny black 26" about 6' high. Black friday box bought after the BF sale was over and box was clearanced cheap. Maybe $300, I don't remember. It is holding up fine. About the same "Feel" to it as the older HF boxes. Better than my 90s Craftsman box. Not as good as I thought my Matco box was when new (mid-80s). If the newer HF boxes were out, I would have bought one of them.

ran across what I think is a newer husky tool chest at Home Depot today. It’s an 80” 10 drawer model hotc8010. Looks nice but I know some of the Home Depot chests I have looked at ove the years are built kinda flimsy. some of the display models had defects on them in the store so I can’t imagine them lasting long in real use. Anyone have one of these or recommend what to look for in the husky line? Thanks for any help.
Bah, Husky boxes are fine. I looked at Husky and Craftsman before I bought my Craftsman 2000 Series box but I only went Craftsman because I like the brand.
If I had no preference, I probably would have went Husky because it was a bit cheaper and looked to be just as good.
