I am looking to get my father a mechanics tool set for Christmas and cannot decide between the Craftsman or Husky brand. Additionally, should I splurge and get the larger piece sets?

How are the husky wrenches? From the picture they look flat.

I have used Husky tools forever, I have no complaints. I ALSO HAVE that Craftsman set that I keep in the car trailer toolbox. I feel like the ratchets in the Craftsman set are a bit better quality.

Both are good. Craftsman will most likely be made by Stanley in the future. Not sure Husky will be made by American owned Apex much longer. HD changes manufacturers. Not sure it matters.

Never used a husky wrench... Or am apex braves wrench. Been reasonably happy with all the Craftsman wrenches I have used. So thanks for the updates.

I have sets of Husky wrenches but theyre at least 10-12 years old. Theyre not bad. That being said I'd buy the Craftsman sets just because they come with 6 point sockets.

You bring up a good point, older people seem to prefer 12 point sockets. That may narrow down the search.

Husky kit says it has both 6 and 12 point sockets.

I’ve always been a Craftsman fan, but FWIW I would chose the Husky. The ratchets are your standard Apex 72 tooth that are rebuildable. You also get more wrenches. The layout of the Husky set looks cleaner and more complete.

I never understood why these modern mechanics sets have a plethora of sockets, probably more than you’ll ever need, then only give you just a few small wrenches in metric and standard.
