Went to home depot saturday to warranty a 1/2" ratchet and I guess you need a receipt for their lifetime warranty now. Kinda stupid I think I can bring a craftsman to sears or a mastercraft to canadian tire and walk out with a new tool. No more husky tools for me.

Canadian Tire requires them now too although no one has bothered me about it yet. Frankly a lifetime warranty shouldn't require a receipt no matter what.

I had the same exact problem and ended up calling the store manager down. I was trying to warranty a old New Britain made breaker bar that had broken and he said that the part number was no longer in their system and he wouldn't warranty it. So I then asked for the direct number to his regional manager and got out my cell phone to call him and then he said "ok I will do it just this once" and I got it swapped out.

I would give them the excuse "when I purchased it I did not need a receipt". Which is true. That would piss me off.

Call husky direct. They'll mail it to you. And throw away the old one. 6-10 business days. I've done it with 8 or more Stanley ratchets. F home depot.

Yup, Husky is kind of a fake lifetime warranty. It's hit-or-miss as to whether they'll handle it or not, based on what I've read here.
Nope, call them direct with part number. Branch of Stanley. They don't care why or how or if its really broken. They'll send you a new one, possibly being a stanley

First off no place on the HD web-site does it say you need a receipt; this is how bad things start.

1-888-HD-HUSKY

And I quote word for word...

"If your Husky hand tool ever fails, bring it back and we'll replace it for free".

NOT THE WORDS AND OH BY THE WAY YOU WILL NEED A RECEIPT SHOWING US THAT YOU BOUGHT THE TOOLS FROM US!!!

You got the wrong person to deal with get the Manager and show him the the Husky web-site write up.

Took back a pair of red handled husky channel locks that kept skipping to a larger size. They told me the red handles are not covered under the warranty.. I then asked to speak to his supervisor, and that I was told all husky hand tools have a Hassel free lifetime warranty. The manager came over and said that they'll exchange it just this once. They gave me a black handled pair of equal size.. Apparently nobody ever returns tools, cause neither customer service employee knew what to do..

You find the tool (that broke) in the tool aisle section, take it to the desk along with your broken tool, show them the package that reads warranty replacement and walk out the door.

Keep in mind that some employees might not have a clue don't ever get upset and don't take "NO" for an answer.

Call me the old geezer with experience.

I can't stand the Husky warranty. The tools are decent but the warranty *****. Every time I've broken the most common of tools like a screwdriver, they give me hell when I try to exchange it.

You must keep in mind for an employee making "BUPKIS", they are clueless; never take "NO" for an answer.

You guys do understand that a LOT of the time, it has nothing to do with the store policy...........it has more to do with the clerk not wanting to be bothered. Happens all the time. Quality Customer Service really is lost on most businesses.

I don't know why, but for some reason Husky has never really been my first choice in less-expensive "Lifetime Warranty" tools. I have a set from a Black Friday sale years ago that stays in the truck, but there's something about the HD tools department that turns me off. A week or so before I deployed they had ratcheting wrench sets (7-piece, IIRC) for $10. Tempting, but I passed on them.

Despite my distaste for Home Depot (admittedly hypocritical to an extent because I'll spend hours in Lowes), I have to agree with other posters that it sound like just a lazy employee or a store "policy" that is out of line with the corporate policy.

My guess...it's all about the P&L statements. When you take that replacement tool off the rack, you have to take it out of inventory and that costs the stores money. I am positive they would rather have you call Husky directly and get them replaced that way. Many of these types of stores have a bonus program based on sales, shrink, ect. If you have to warranty tools, that cuts into your bottom line.

Nope, call them direct with part number. Branch of Stanley.

This is no longer correct. At one time Husky was indeed a Stanley brand, but now the brand is owned and serviced entirely by Home Depot. The 888-HD-HUSKY (888-434-8759) custom service phone# goes to Home Depot, not Stanley.

Obviously HD doesn't manufacture any tools themselves, so they may indeed still be using Stanley as a manufacturer for the Husky tools. Anyone know for sure?

BTW, I know that Home Depot USED to have a policy of accepting ANY brand for warranty replacement. i.e. You could bring in a broken no-name socket and exchange it for a Husky. This seemed crazy to me, and I guess someone at HD Corporate agreed; it is no longer their policy.
