Is your return air coming in from the bottom or from the side of the furnace?

Your flex gas line between the shutoff and gas valve will be fine at 1/2".

Insulation should be continuous on the suction line (larger one) all the way from the condenser to the coil.

So it the question how to seal the bottom of the furnace case to the return duct/box? Is it a sheetmetal box that the furnace sits on?

Pictures would be most helpful....

Understand the sealing part. That's why I was asking what the furnace is going to be sitting on. Is this plywood floor a box of some sort? You said that it's going to be drawing return air from the bottom, as in the bottom of the furnace case in the intake. Or is there going to be a hole cut in the side of the bottom part of the furnace?

Honestly it doesn't really have to be sealed if the furnace closet is located within the conditioned space. The little bit of leakage is still conditioned air. If this closest it outside of the conditioned envelope the sealing does become important.

Belt and suspenders approach: Generous application of duct mastic along with UL listed aluminum tape (not cloth based "duct" tape).

The problem is the wood won't expand and contract at the same rate that the furnace housing does and the seal will eventually crack. It will take a long time though.
