HVAC humidifier question

Lately we've been having trouble with our in system humidifier bumping into a service mode and shutting off. Sometimes it just stops humidifying, other times it results in the air handler shutting off completely for the main floor of the house. Through a little observation it seems that the humidifier is getting signals from our drain pump that it doesn't like, resulting in the described symptoms. As far as I can tell, individually, both units seem to be working appropriately. They are connected through an interface module.

My question is can I separate the two units and let them operate independently of each other and how to I do it? I tried simply disconnecting the pump from the wires that lead towards the interface module, but immediately shut it down.

Thoughts, suggestions?
