Forgive me if I use the wrong terms, not an HVAC guy. I will not be doing the install but would like to be educated on my options so I don't end up with something I will be unhappy with.

Here is what I have. 165' x 60' Morton building. It is nearly 25 years old.

45 x 60 on the east end is 4 different rooms and walled off from the main shop. Currently air conditioned and heated with a home style upright furnace and duct work. Furnace was replaced 8ish years ago. AC has been acting up and it is probably time to replace it. That should be pretty straight forward.

36 x 60 on the west end is not air conditioned and is heated with an original to the building Reznor heater hanging from the ceiling.....I hate that thing. One 8'x8' wall opening connects this to the main shop. There is not a door between those two sections.

The main shop is is heated with Reznor tube heaters. They are awesome and I am completely in love with them.

For years when it was hot out, we ran the AC in the front and blew it into the main shop with a fan and it stayed pretty cool and comfortable. After the renters left, I opened the main shop up to the west end.......now it still stays pretty reasonable in here but I would like to make it better. The west end of the shop runs quite warm, if it is 80 in the main shop, the west side is 86*

So I would like to have AC in the west end of the shop. It is 2150 square feet. I think I have two choices.
  • Mini Split - This doesn't solve my "I hate that hanging furnace that is 25 years old" problem but is likely the most efficient for AC.....?
  • Home style furnace - I am intrigued by this. I have a air compressor room in the northeast corner of this shop section with 7' above it to the ceiling. It would be a perfect spot for the unit. In my mind I could duct down the east wall with a sock? And because anything is possible when you don't know what you are talking about - I could cut a whole in the wall and draw (cleaner) air in from the main shop creating some automatic circulation.

I would like input on those two options and am open to other suggestions. I won't say money is not object but I don't mind investing in this building as I plan on being here for another 20 years.

Thanks all!
