Thanks Rick, you made me call Goodman. :)

You got me thinking, is it possible Ive been wrong about something so basic for sooooo long? The answer was no. But you are not wrong either. I have a lot of GMP furnaces in the area I work on, so I know there is only one fan relay on the board. It is energized by G or Y. So the fan cannot be brought on manually with "fan on" if the relay fails. Goodman confirmed this. This is not the case with a lot of furnaces, particularly newer stuff. G and Y each have there own relay so you can choose a speed for just fan on. In that case if the fan cooling relay fails, switching the fan switch to fan on will bring the fan on. But not if "Y" is also energized. In that case the cooling relay overrides the fan relay, and if the cooling relay is bad.....No fan.

Ok Jack I checked on your board today also got some pricing and stuff on it . Give me a call this evening and I will walk you through some diagnostics ( to make sure it is the board ) and can fill you in on the board if that is the problem .

Rick, I might not need to call you right away. Having confirmed that it didn't work several times at the end of last season, I didn't think it was necessary to do the exact same thing again. So when this thread tested, I knew that the heater was triggering the blower fine, and I confirmed that the blower would kick in when I switched from Auto to On on the thermostat. But because I'd moved some stuff around the outside unit, I didn't try running the AC itself (also: it was 69° in the house).

But yesterday I moved everything away from the outside unit and gave it a try -- and it's working again. Now, this could mean I'm going to see an intermittent failure. But I ran it for 30 minutes and then shut it off for five minutes and ran it again, and it keeps working.

So it might be the board, but let me see if I can generate a failure again in the next few weeks (it is supposed to get to 86° today, but then only be in the upper sixties by this weekend. If we get a few more short cycles of warmer days like this in the next few weeks, I should be able to test it a number of times in real-world conditions.

But please hold onto that pricing info (or PM me) and as soon as I do get the failure again I'll go through the troubleshooting steps.

And again -- thank you VERY much for your help on this. I appreciate it.

Thats pretty cool and scary at the same time. Imagine what you could do if some one pissed you off in said building.
Funny you mention that. One hot summers afternoon about 10 years ago when i was working health clubs I was in one health club having a phone "discussion" with the General Manager for another health club in the group. We were not seeing eye to eye on some small point. From my computer I called up the HVAC for the group of offices hers was in and changed the set point to 105 deg. Watched as the AC compressors went off and the heat went into purge, trial for pilot and then burner #1 on. About 20 seconds later there is a pause in the almost endless stream of words coming out of the GM and then she said "That's NOT funny" Once again I was in disagreement with her. :bounce:

I do have to take "Ethics" classes and this would be one example of something you shouldn't do. You really have to know all the special things in order to get "on-line" with your building automation system or BAS.
It is amazing to see a 70 story building being controlled by the BAS and all the machinery associated to heat and cool a building. Troubleshooting the network can be daunting!!
