HVAC transition duct?

Don't know what else to call it but the picture is of my basement ceiling between the floor joists, 6" round ducting. I want to tap off of this to heat my basement (as I'm finishing it) by putting in a couple of ceiling vents and was hoping there is something already made to do this, I haven't found what I think I'm looking for at a big box store. Also I have some rectangular ducting that I'd like to do the same to.

On the round just use a “tee” at an existing joint.
On the flat you will need to cut a round hole an install a short 6 inch piece.
It isn’t hard but takes some specialty tools.
And you will spend some time re-balancing the registers.

I would recommend you take a good long look at your furnace's rated output. I know people do this sort of modification all the time, some with great success, but be careful as you might end up creating issues with the comfort of the rest of your home. I have had to undo many of these types of modifications over the years because the HVAC equipment wasn't properly rated and balanced for the extra load. For a small fee (maybe $60.00??) you could have an HVAC tech come by and check out your system and advise you of what you can and can't do to get heat in your basement.

I second the concern about taping off of the line -- you are going to drop the flow to the room that duct feeds. Especially if the system is properly constructed and the pressure in that duct is correct. That is only large enough for one outlet.

Depending on your setup in the basement you may not be looking at a big job to do it correctly.
