Goodman furnace and Goodman air conditioner

Haven't used the ac yet this year and i knew it was going to be warm this week and coming weekend

Walked over to the tstat and the screen was blank, no power to it at all.....no batteries just a C wire

Go in to the basement and remove the doors on the furnace

I was thinking it was the door safety switch, so I turn off the power switch on the outside of the furnace and made a short jumper. Fired up for 5 seconds, hear a relay type click and it shuts off. Then Nothing. Dead

So I check for power because I notice the furnace circuit boards single light is also off. I don't have power going into the furnace, just have power before the switch

I take the jumper wire off and put the door switch back in place.....and also change the filter, it was past due

I move the main power switch up and down a few times and I have power again.......put the doors back on and everything seems to be working again

So, is the power switch bad and for $5 should I just install a new 15a switch to rule that out? How or why would the switch go out, not like it gets used a lot

Switches do go bad in time, pull the switch out and see if the wires are pushed into the back of the switch, if so, pull them out and put them on the screws and tighten down.

I'd replace the switch. And check connections in the switch box

I'd get a meter and actually check things out.

Ha. I was at my BIL’s yesterday. Just bought the house in December. Was told the Goodman HVAC was new. Yesterday it was 79 degrees in his house and the AC just couldn’t bring it any lower. He asked me to look at it. Best I could tell, the compressor was kicking on, but the lines were warm and room temp air was coming from the vents. I’m guessing his system has a leak or needs to be charged. We shall see

Switch and receptacle wiring. The holes in their backs where you can just push the wire in for termination really aren't made for high current just a thin piece of metal is making the connection. Wire to the screw terminals and they will last for years.

Geo thermal is the most efficient system by far $25- $30 k. There is a fed tax rebate 30% and might be a electric company rebate also. Natural gas btu content 100k per cubic foot, #2 oil 136900 per gallon, propane 91k. With these fuels have to also figger in efficiency of the furnace or boiler plus all taxes. Insulation,windows and doors might want to consider a upgrade because with a heat load calculation it might lower the size of equipment. Some electric companies will do a energy audit with a blower door test very reasonable. Blower door test tells how tight your house is.

Agree -- remove cover and check. If a cheap switch (replace) .... if the switch looks decent but with back push in terminals in use -- move to screw terminals at a minimum.

The power went out on the AC/tstat again this morning

I found a new 15a switch in my electrical bin in the garage

Current switch on the side of the furance looks pretty old, may as well replace it if I am going to pull it out to check the wiring

Wow, well I am glad I changed out the switch and spent $1.59

Once inside, the box stunk and I now know why

Good thing I didn't have a fire
