HVLP gun advice

I am getting ready to refinish my Bolens Diablo Rouge snowmobile and and would like to spray it with an automotive style HVLP or LVLP gun. I have a 60 gallon Puma compressor with 50ft of 1" pipe before it goes out to the lines, as well as a dessicant dryer I can plumb in, so clean/dry air is not an issue.

This would be used for utility applications more than automotive...this snowmobile is a perfect example. I'm not opposed to spending more to get out of the budget Campbell-Hausfield, HF, Neiko, etc, but I don't need anything like DeVilbiss Finishline, SATA, etc. I've done some painting in the past but am by no means a pro, and understand that prep work is 90% of the end product.

I'm thinking the Astro EvoT EuroPro, the Graco-Sharpe FX3000, or DeVilbiss Starting Line Paint/Prime Kit

The Astro is reported to be a slower gun, which is probably good, but I really like the idea of multiple tip sizes between 2 guns. Any other suggestions, or am I at the point where I am wasting time researching and should just buy one of these?

Very pleased with my Astro EuroPro. Astro is also very supportive on the board here in answering questions. Been a year in service at my plasma/sign shop. I am not aware that you can buy spare tips though. My understanding is that if you want a 1.3 and 1.5, you buy 2 complete units.

Every purple gun I've seen leaks and drips after a few use/cleaning cycles.

We carry tips but they are an assembly with the fluid needle and nozzle which makes the parts close to the cost you can find whole guns for.

I actually forgot to add that the 3M accuspray was on the short list. I feel like I could get a better "mainstream" gun, and I have a tough time getting my head around it not being a gimmick, but it sure seems like a slick system.

Astro sells spray guns made by a company in Taiwan called Rich Star Precision Industries. These guys are the cream of the crop in Taiwanese spray guns. I highly endorse the Astro EuroPro series and that's from a guy with 30 SATA spray guns.

I’ve got some serious money in paint guns and I too recommend the purple HF paint gun and at a cost of ten bucks you don’t even have to clean it if you don’t want to, just toss it in the scrap metal barrel when your done.

Ive got the DeVilbiss kit you link. Had it about 10 years. It's done everything I need it to do. I'm not a pro and don't have a lot to compare it to. I've sprayed automotive paint, polyurethane, lacquer, and cerakote through them.

I recently bought another HR purple gun. It's not the same as one from a couple years ago. Much cheaper in overall feel. If you do buy one, take it apart and check for burrs and other anomalies. Sorta like blueprinting it. Do you want to go to that trouble? HF does sell a better one but I haven't tried it.

Astro sounds like it might be my next investment. Remember that you need 2 different guns for base coat/clear coat.

I have the H.F. gun with the gold around nozzle. It really lays paint down really well.
