Hey guys...I'm posting 2 separate questions in 2 separate threads because they are 2 different models of HW jacks.
I've posted pics of the jack and the manual for it I found online years ago.
My questions for this model. You can see the pic of the jack...and although you can't really see the part...it shows the location of the air vent screw. Is that what my pic of my jack shows? The thing with the white colored cap?
If you'll notice...in the pic with instructions on " Bleeding" the jack....they mention an " oil filler screw". But nowhere in the pic of part locations does it mention or show an oil filler screw.
Yet, in the pic with instructions on " adding " oil....it says to fill via "air vent screw" hole. So...I'm confused. I see no other accessible screw for filling.
I'm just trying to fill it and then bleed it to see if it works. Had it for years...bought it used for cheap cause supposedly it didn't lift very high. If it works I'm going to use it but if I can't get it working I guess I am going to get rid of it cause it..and i...have a shelf life that's winding down,
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Yes, there is a white cap on top of the air vent. It is also the same place you fill the reservoir with hydraulic oil.

In the past, there was a time when they shipped the jacks with a screw to prevent oil leaks during shipping. It had instructions to remove the screw and replace it with the air vent before use.

Hey.....thanks. I'll take the white cap off and get a better look at it.....maybe take a pic if I have any questions. So are the instructions on filling and bleeding in that manual correct? Just fill and pump with valve open?

You don’t need to take the white cap off. The metal+plastic part together screws out of the reservoir, and you can fill through the hole. The fill portion of the instructions is fine. The bleeding part of the instructions … was only for the first time when you unpackaged the jack to remove the screw. the presence of the air vent means the jack is self bleeding each time you use it - jack it up to full height and release once and it self bleeds through the air vent.

It would be great if you could edit and re-title your thread with something useful such as:

“Hein-Werner Service Jack help needed”

rather than the currently ambiguous title.

Just to be sure I understand....the air vent is also the fill screw. And even with that plastic cap on, it can still bleed off when the jack collapses....do I have that right?
Thanks again man.

The air vent is a small hole. When you remove the air vent, there is a bigger hole.

Small hole to let air in and out and to try to keep the oil in.

Big hole to let air in and out and to fill or drain oil.

Got it.....thanks.
Hey....just wanted to say thanks again. I pulled the air vent/fill plug out. Using a pen light I couldn't see any fluid. I had an old small oil pump can...cleaned it out and filled it half way with hydraulic fluid. Pumped all I could till the pickup mechanism couldn't grab fluid. Filled it half way again, same thing...and still wasn't full. So I filled it the third time...and pumped the can again and with only a little more fluid the cylinder showed full. Then put the vent hole screw back in.
I went ahead and used that method for pumping air out as if it were a brand new jack. Then turned the handle to close the valve. Started pumping....the jack pumped up as it should....all the way to the top. Today I'm going to slide it under my Polaris SxS...jack up one side and see if it stays up or bleeds off at all.
Funny thing is, I bought this jack about 10 years ago at a store that purchased pallets of returned goods from stores like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I'd only tried using it the day I brought it home...since then its been sitting in the garage. The people at the store didn't know if it worked or not. But it was apparently new...still looks new. Anyway, they wanted it gone and sold it to me for $10. This morning it pumped up fine, no leaks from where it was sitting all night...I may have come out ahead on this deal. Now to figure out my old HW!
Thank you again man. I appreciate you and the others that helped me with this.
