Howdy all,

Newer member here. I've been mulling over garage plans for the past 6 months or so while watching the local real estate market. I'm not in a position yet to build but that doesn't mean I can't plan.

My ideal garage would roughly be a 48x72 monitor style. The oddity is I'd like to incorporate a one to two ton bridge crane and the associated supports into the center monitor structure. The outer "shed" portions of the monitor would be traditional wooden posts/beams tied to the steel crane frame.

Has anyone ran into this? What do you think? At this point it's all just daydreaming, and yes I realize the need to eventually get a hold of a PE.

Which way do you want to run the bridge crane ? Side to side or front to back ? Side to side is pretty easy, if you stay to the center structure.

Design the supports for the bridge crane so you can add some handy jib cranes to them to move stuff under the shed sections. You will really appreciate them once you get working in there. A 500 to 1000 lb jib crane can move a lot of stuff to where it's easier to work on.
