Hydraulic cement for piecing in a cinder block?

So I've been working on running my utilities thru the cinder block wall in my basement. I have removed one whole block as I am going to be running 4 pcs of conduit into the basement so I needed a big opening. So obviously with all the pipes sticking thru the opening I'm going to have to patch the hole with little pieces of block and mortar. Should I use hydraulic cement patch for the complete job on this? Thanks

Only if you have the job laid out and you are quick. That stuff sets up fast!

Is the block below grade? If it's above grade, you may want to use standard mortar if you are planning to use pieces to cover the hole. Standard mortar will give more time to work with it before it sets up.

No the block is below grade. And with the pipes coming thru the missing block hole I'm concerned about water coming in during rains. There is going to be 5 different pieces of various size conduit coming thru this hole. So as you can picture they are going to be spaced close to each other with various little pieces of cinder block and mortar mixed in to fill the opening. And also I'll have to pack mortar between the pieces of conduit to try to make it water tight. That's why I was thinking a mortar that expands might be a better idea.

Hydraulic cement would work. I would spray foam the center of the hole so the mortar wouldn't fall down into the web of the block underneath. Plus, spread foundation tar around your hole on the exterior since it's below grade.
