I hesitated to ask this because I know I will get answers telling me that they have sucessfully used kitchen waste oil or the stuff they drained from their car, for thirty years, but here goes. Most car jacks and bottle jack instructions say to just use good quality jack oil, but when they do make a reccomendation the ISO viscosity can vary quite a bit. The Hein Werner jack oil is ISO 10. I just bought a tractor lift and they like Mobil DTE 13, which is ISO 32. A popular store brand from Liquid Wrench is ISO 40. Different popular brands seem to be all over the place. Best choice for my old Ajax/Walker?I have no idea. Anybody with some hydraulic expertise? Thanks.

Checked again for Hyd.Jackm oil at Walmart. They had quarts labeld as such. Now they have-30 weight non detergent motor oil,for use in hydraulic jacks. The ND oil sticks to the metal longer. If you do not change oil,the piston pump plunger will rust from condensatiion
and take its seal out like mine did after 25 years or so.Basement was flooded at least once
to.It only takes about 10 oz to change oil ! Change once a year is good.ATF is more like 10 weight oil,and very high detergent.
