I totally agree!

I found a guy that worked for the company that made my truck. He is going to try and get me some more information, but it looks like the mess under the truck is for an old hydraulically driven generator and I may just be able to eliminate most of the mess. If this is the case, it is going to take a bit of effort, but in the end there will be much less mess and longterm maintenance.
