Back around the early 80’s a friend and I were bemoaning the fact that he and I had no hydraulic shop press for our motorcycle repairs and such, so we got together and gathered up materials from a local metal scrap yard we frequented for the projects. 4 inch steel channel at 4.5 lbs per foot was acquired and it was on. I never liked the presses with the underslung jack setup, so decided to do ours in a different manner.

We used my mag drill for all the holes in the frame because we could, although it could just as well have been done in the drill press. We had the mag drill you know, and it just had to be used. Lower guide bore plate in the press is 1/2” plate and the upper rod guide plate is 1/4”. The rod is a piece of 1-1/2” crs of unknown alloy. The guide and tension rods are 7/8” hot rolled steel. The spring is from the rear shock of a CB750 Honda motorcycle.

The press was at the point that I wanted to put a new paint job on it and it needed a few more table support holes drilled for more convenience in table placement. I recently broke out the old monster mag drill with my chain hoist since it weighs 100 lbs and went at it. After drilling four new table pin holes it got brushed and sanded and shot with a couple coats of Rustoleum primer and dark grey spray bomb paint from the shelf for convenience. Old faithful went back in place looking a little better for its ride along until the bitter end with me.IMG_1398.jpegIMG_1397.jpegIMG_1402.jpegIMG_1406.jpegIMG_1405.jpegIMG_1404.jpeg
