Still in the planning stages for our new house and garage(s) for when we move to Prescott Arizona. A contractor we've known for some time in that area has been putting together a ballpark estimate as to what the 'new digs' might cost based on the completed drawings and specs we've provided.
Since I intend on having a two-post lift in the working garage and after reading hoist vendor recommendations, I passed all the details along to the contractor. The concrete we called for was to be 6-inches of 5K mix with re-bar and wire. According to some vendors that was going to be overkill but it at least gave us a spec to have estimated. Heard back from the contractor and one of the main concrete suppliers in the area doesn't have a 5K mix but had suggested a 4500# hydromix. The 4500 pound rating would probably be fine but the 'hydromix' listing was new to me. After looking it up, it appears that 'Hydromix' supposedly will give you a more uniform mix with less chance of 'cement balls' in the load but most of the attributes seem to be for the supplier and not really a performance issue for the home owner but that's only after a quick read-through. Any one have comments on Hydromix?
Thanks,
Mike T

Really? I will do some asking around about Hydromix, i've never heard of it BUT, if you have any hint or feeling that your Batch Plant might deliver concrete with "cement balls" (?)....run in the opposite direction.

I tried to find a 'short' explanation of what this so-called 'Hydromix Concrete' has to offer but the link is kinda 'wordy' so let me offer the link and maybe something will leap off the page for someone more familiar with concrete.
http://www.hydromix.com/. My observations are that it offers more plusses to the vendor than it does to the home owner sort of a 'sales pitch' by the Hydromix people. They do mention additional strength in the mix but I haven't seen anything to back it up. In the end, I suppose that regardless of whether they use the Hydromix system or not, is the fact that they will be able to supply a 4500# mix to the site and that's the criteria used by the hoist suppliers.
