Hi all, I spied these at Walmart. They are made in Taiwan. I think the blue sockets look neat.

Bailed me out once changing an alternator for a friend once when i had no tools with me. Told him to keep em. Good in a pinch but not long term use.

Colored sockets are nice....when they come in different colors. You can find the size you need really easy like. One color makes no sense.

Man, someone tell the Snap On guy Wally World will be encroaching on their sales. Snap on is red...must be all SAE stuff. I think I'll get that fancy blue stuff so I'll know its metric :lol_hitti

I've got a buddy that's a carpenter. Runs his own construction company. He has been buying their claw hammers. $2.88. He thinks they are as good as any quality he has used over the years. He bought a dozen. He then came back and said watch them carefully. The castings or machining was getting worse. Sure enough they are.

I bought a couple of sets to use with my electric 3/8 impacts. They have held up reasonably well.

I don't know about the name, but for a simple tool like combination wrenches, the Hyper Tough 15pc sets had more sizes than most around here, and were about $1.25 per piece, total. Worth a try then, I like the shape of those, and they function nicely so far. I'm not really interested in their other sets though (they all overlap or leave something out, which is typical of wrench sets in general). I'll probably end up with a few different brands for other sizes or lengths, at some point. Well, I'm not exactly a wrench enthusiast, more of a varietist, and have a number of other hand tools, so that's my basis for comparison.

I'm not worried about standard length handles exploding on me, as if... you never know, reading reviews of anything, there's always some guy saying something exploded. OK, sure. If you really try to make it explode, by all means, that's your fault. At least nothing with that type of review has been a problem for me, so I take it with a grain of salt. Not that I bothered reading reviews of these, it's too simple of a tool to worry about. I just took a good look. Dynamite! Yeah, the lady checking me out there thought they were something, so don't take my word for it. :D

Yep, that's the type of tools you only want to have to use in emergencies like if you're in the parking lot of Napa changing out an alternator for a hot ex GF that you want to impress because your current wife is becoming a PITA and there might be a chance that, um, oh...........never mind. :eyecrazy:

But seriously, at least spring for Stanley hand tools. I mean they are only a few bucks more. But there are a lot of quality tools in between the price of Hyper Tough and Snap-On -- Tekton, some Pittsburgh Pro, SK, Armstrong, Gearwrench, etc..

I have an open mind about these things, they'll all name something corny, if not the brand itself.
Wilde makes a Hyper Tough Prybar in the USA, Hiawatha Ks....
Case in point.

8pc 3/8 blue
consider theyre same sizes as a typical 1/4 rail of sockets, so yeah they should hold up.

I have never seen a set end at 14mm before.

The harbor freight 1/4" set is 5-14mm, but they are 6-point sockets; the hyper tough are 12-point, but I don't think that they are the same as the 3/8" harbor freight sockets.

Hyper tough:

Pittsburgh pro (harbor freight):

Notice how much sharper the teeth on the hyper tough sockets are; they are more like triple square, better for poor fit tools. The HF sockets have rounder teeth, "flank drive," "surface drive," whatever. Better fit, grabs the fastener farther back from the point.

The HF sockets are cheaper (even in 3/8", which covers larger sizes, it's 10 sockets for $10) and probably better quality.

Its a generic 'buying catagory' for the retailer.
Just an accounting trick really.

I imagine that clothes and foods would be distinct catagories too.

They Should rethink the name that's the cheapest sounding tool name I have ever heard, just screams overseas ****. I am sure some of it is ok, but I hate that name.

Once you hide the retail packaging no one will know, unless they read this thread. That's the 1st rule of craptastic tools = no branding marks on the tool itself.

Hmm, what could they rename it to sound even cheesier?

"Very Strong" - that's cheesy

"Quite Potent" - I would buy Quite Potent tools, wouldn't you?

"Super Stiff" - now it sounds like a completely different sort of product... :)

hmmmm, what about "stronger than any bolt" formerly found on a well-regarded european brand?

Wish I had a laboratory and knowledge to quantitatively test these and other tool brands for metallurgy, dimensional accuracy, etc... to say Brand X sits at such and such a point in a ranking list of tool brands. It's true that in most cases you get what you pay for but as many GJ members know, there are good value tools made all around the world.

When you need to get something done, the tool you have available is better than any tool you don't have available to use.

The marketing guys should have copied Harbor Freight, just named the tools after a U.S.A. town that projects images of a bygone U.S.A. steel industry.

Allentown Wrenches, Scranton Socketry, Youngstown Industrial, Cleveland Craftsman or even just name them Kenosha Pro, to piss off snap on.

I am glad they didn't use these names, but the "Hyper Tough" name just reminds me of late nite infomercials. Although, I would buy one of the Wilde USA prybars even if it said "Hyper Tough," but that is about it unless, it was an emergency.

If you like them and they work for you more power to you, not trying to judge any ones decision but like someone said just for a dollar or more you could step up to Stanley.
