Hyperikon LED Lights or other suggestions

Long time lurker, basically my first post requesting information and of course it's a popular topic so maybe I overlooked a post with all the answers in it but hopefully not.

I'm looking to upgrade the LED lights in my garage/shop and I've been considering these as they appear to be super bright and are even waterproof(not really needed but can't hurt I guess).

Has anyone had experience with this brand or maybe even these lights themselves or have a suggestion of something better to use? I know there are a lot of lighting posts but 90% of them are only talking about 1-2 light options, i'm looking to take input any any led fixture that would work for the space.

The space for these lights is a 2 stall garage that doubles as a hobby woodshop so vehicles get parked inside as well as saw dust getting made. I want some really bright lights and I would really like to just have 4 of them, my ceiling has 2 outlets spaced in the middle of each side that used to have light sockets in them, now they have duplex receptacles so it spaces out perfectly to have 4 fixtures 2 on each side of the recepticles. I have considered linking more fixtures but if I can get away with 4 that would be ideal. Garage is 10' ceiling.

I am currently running 4 3650lm menards black friday lights and only 3 are functional(lost 3 over the last 3 years) so I am looking for something that will be reliable.

The menards lights were wired so that if one led fails in the strip the whole light goes out which really *****, not sure if these new lights are wired differently but I really don't want that style of light again. I'd rather have a small dark spot then lose the entire fixture.

The lights i'm looking at are 4' vapor proof 70w(150w equivilant) 5000K fixtures with a frosted cover.

Been using some of their A21 lamps and 4' single "T5" fixtures for about a year now. No complaints. Yanked one of the T5s off a ceiling and it didn't even flicker!! Not the cheapest but the quality is higher IME.

Those fixtures you've linked should be a good choice for a wood shop. The 6 in their IP65 rating means dust proof.

Four 4ft fixtures is inadequate for a 2 bay garage regardless of lumen output.

I just looked through your lighting layout post, man is that a lot of information to digest. If I were doing this from scratch with a bigger budget I would totally use one of your proven layouts but I don't think I want to double my budget right now, maybe down the road and I can just move these lights and add more.

My garage does have a bump out in the back left corner that comes out 7' and is about 8' wide along with my workbench that's 28" deep on the left side and 1' cabinet on the other wall so it cuts the space down quite a bit, maybe i've just never worked in good lighting but the 4 I have now don't seem too bad if they would stop burning out.

Qty.8 4ft 2-lamp strip lights (thus 16 bulbs) would run about $215 (+ shipping on fixture housings)
2640 lumen per lamp, 5280 lm per fixture, 42,240 lm total.
Not a dust tight enclosure.

Qty.4 Hyperikon LED Vapor Proof Fixtures = $204 (free shipping)
7100 lumens per fixture, 28,400 lm total.
Dust tight enclosure.

I'm thinking I need the dust tight enclosures, i'm looking for a regular 40w led fixture now where I could buy 8 of them for the price of 4 of the vaporproof lights($220 ish) and get the same or more lumens for the same money but i'm having a hard time finding dust tight enclosures in that price range.

They would also need to be linkable.

What are your thoughts on buying a florescent fixture and taking the ballast out and using led bulbs?

I can grab 8 of these from lowes:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Metalux-SN...ht-Common-4-ft-Actual-2-75-in-x-48-in/3335372

And buy bulbs for them:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G4GX1YK/?tag=atomicindus08-20

So 1 fixture is $25 + $20 in bulbs(2 x 10) = $45 for a little over 4000lm per fixture and I could spread them out more with 8 of them. And I could wire between fixtures making them linkable.

Seems like the best solution to me? Also if a bulb burns out I can just replace a bulb instead of a whole fixture and with no ballast I can't imagine the fixture itself failing?

The 4ft retrofit bulbs are essentially dust tight, but when placed in a typical strip light, dust can collect on top of the bulb. This should not shorten the life of the bulb, but may be undesirable depending on the tasks being performed.

Standard strip lights are "linkable" via romex or conduit.

So would there be a down side to the florescent fixtures upgrade with led bulbs other then dust being able to sit on top of the led tubes? I'm really liking the idea of not having to replace a fixture when it burns out, just pop another tube in.

Qty.16 of LUMEGEN LG-4T8-22WBB-SM50K(5000k) $7.19 ea = 115.04 (free shipping)

Qty.8 of Maxlite LSS2XT8USE4803 price vaires between $14.50 & $15.96 (shipping vaires)

See post 1 of Best Light Fixture thread.

or

$30.67 per fixture

That makes a lot more sense then ripping the ballast out of a working fixture :)

Thank you for all the help! I think this is the way i'm going to go.

Depending on shipping charges, I like the above linked ProLighting bulb & housing option as those bulbs are more efficient @ 148 Lumens/Watt. The energy savings might not mean much, but it helps keep the wattage down on that circuit: 16 lamps x 18 watts = 288 Watts (2.4A @ 120V).

For me the shipping was $30 for the housings, I went to lowes and they actually had some fixtures on sale, that plus an employee discount brought them to $15.60 a piece so I bought those last night, bulbs are shipping to me by Monday so hopefully all goes well! :)

Thank you again for the help, this setup is going to be 1000% better with just replacing a bulb when they burn out instead of the entire fixture.
