trying to source a specific tool. Just spent the last hour driving around this town trying to find either a 1" stubby combo wrench or a 1" crows foot. :eyecrazy::eyecrazy::eyecrazy:

Going to go crawl back under the truck and try to get things tightened up, if I can't work it this time I'm taking the damn die grinder to my wrench and hacking about 6" off it :shocking:

Sears has 1 inch stubby...sae.
Not the Sears in Kenai, AK. Their exact quote was "We think we can have it here in 7 days." To hell with that, I'll just drive to Anchorage before I have them order me something. Just wound up bending my craftsman 1" so it would fit. Going to be buying a Snap-On combo flank drive set ASAP to replace all the ones I've modified to work on my truck with.

Hi Sloper0204 - years ago I had the same problem and ended up cutting a Proto 1" combo in half. I still have both pieces, even ground the ends to a smooth taper. For the life of me, I can't remember why I needed to make the stubby wrench or what I used it on. What do you need one for? :)

Sorry man, I hear ya! I was going to buy a dishwasher from Sears one day, but sice they don't have any freight on hand or storage and always have to order it..I spent 20 bucks more and went to lowes. Plus the old fokker at Sears was a ****. Customer service is gone these days.

Nothign makes me more mad when I spend my money at a store..and I'm expected to say Thank you.

Rant: sorry!

Last weekend, I was installing the hitch on my Sienna. I had wanted to buy a tap to clean out the threads first and I wanted a wrench or socket large enough to tighten the nut on the ball.

You'd think that would be a pretty simple order.

Loaded my son in the van and off we go. Check out TSC first. Hmm.. for the ball nut, closest they've got is a 1 1/2" socket (too loose) but they had a set of LARGE metric wrenches which I used to determine that I needed a 37mm socket or wrench. They had neither. They did have a 15" adjustable wrench which I noted in the "Justin Case" file. No large taps.

Over to CT Boutique. Biggest socket they had was 36mm. No wrenches larger than 1 1/4". No large taps.

Over to the building center. Same story.

Over to Home Hardware. Same story.

And the trailer place I learned of by talking to someone at the building center was closed.

So, POed and not wanting to do the same trek in the city, I went home. Total waste of time.

Needed it to tighten up the 45° fitting I was installing on my bypass filter setup to clearance the oil lines. They've been rubbing on the frame for the last 8,000 miles waiting for things to thaw out enough to work on it. As it is I was still caked in mud by the time I was done :shocking:

I was replacing the EGR valve on a celica and needed a stubby wrench to get back there. I didn't hesitate, I just got a cresent wrench and hacked it off to about 4.5 inches total. It worked great and has saved me on several occasions. I figured it was better that cutting off a combo.

Yeah, when I picked up the receiver and ball, they had the wrenches out too... right at the end of the aisle, right above the balls. Looked at 'em too, pondered one for a moment, then figured, nah, I must have something that big at home. ;)

many times i get stuck in a situation that requires cutting/bending a wrench.
over the winter i was out on a call replacing a drive motor hose, it was sleeting/snowing and the wind was howling, my hands were froze, i couldnt feel my feet, and the dumbchits had piled snow up all around where i was working.
after standing on my head and getting the old hose off, i found i couldnt get my hand into where i needed to get the new hose started on the fitting.
i ended up torching a never used 27mm wrench off to get access to the hose. at least the wrench was warm for a few minutes.
