The idea that is....

Been cruising the site for a few months now and have got quite a few idea's from all the talented members post's.

Saw this some where on the site. Thought it was a GREAT idea...so I copied it.

Here are some pic's of my version.

Had my air tools scattered around the garage. So I needed to consolidate them in one area for my own sanity.
My Garage is SMALL and I'm running out of room quick. I need to maximize the space I have. That's another reason this Idea is so great.

Anyway...on to the pic's.

Used 1.5"x1.5" angle iron. Cut it about 30" long

Drilled 10 holes and taped them with a 1/4" NPT tap.

IMG_2225-vi.jpg

used 1" pipe and 1/4" plate for the mounts. Cut the pipe 4" long and the plate 2.5"x 4".

IMG_2221-vi.jpg

Welded the plate to the pipe 1st then the pipe/plate to the angle iron.

IMG_2226-vi.jpg

picked up some cheap China made universal quick disconnects and Harbor Freight. A package of 5 was on sale for $3.00.

IMG_2230-vi.jpg

They are cheap in quality as well as price. Not really good for anything except what I'm using them for.

IMG_2232-vi.jpg

Threaded them into the angle iron to check fit and looks.

IMG_2215-vi.jpg

About 1/8" sticks out the other side.

IMG_2214-vi.jpg

After a quick degrease I used a rattle can of grey/ silver paint to pretty them up.

IMG_2228-vi.jpg

Reassembled it and tightened the couplers down.

IMG_2234-vi.jpg

Mounted it up high so as it's not in the way with the tools hanging from it.

IMG_2235-vi.jpg

Then loaded it up with my air tools. I use a step ladder to get to the air tools.

IMG_2238-vi.jpg

Looks good and seems to work well.

So thanks to Garage Journal for the 1st of many idea's I'll be using.

Very nice!
Did you think of closing up the holes on the backside of the air couplers? I'm thinking that is a nice home to some spiders/bugs to crawl into.

Can only see one problem with using those couplers in that manner. After they have been in use for a while they tend to stick, ie they pretend to be latched and really are not. As soon as your back is turned, the tool could drop on the floor............be on guard for that. My preference is a hook that a tool hangs on.

I thought of that and plan on capping them with some plastic or vinyl caps or just drive a screw or rivet into the opening.

So do you have to use a ladder every time you want to use a tool?

Just a step stool which I keep beside the bench anyway. I'm only 5'10" so ya, I need the step stool.

I give the tool a slight "tug" before taking my hand off it. But I will be weary of that, thanks.

Maybe I should have rephrased that.:)

Never...I'm done:D

This gets what I have in one spot.

I have 5 paint guns so I think I'll make one just for them.
That will free up 2 spots on this one.
