Hello my name is Shawn and I am a cabinet addict. I keep buying cabinets even though I may not have a use for them. If it is something unique and a style of something I do not have yet, I want it. If it is at a great price even though I already have a similar style, I want it. Vidmar, Lista, Lyon, Strong Hold, Equipto, they are all great. I have an app on my phone that constantly searches Craigslist. Below is my most recent purchase. I wanted it as it had 18 drawers, it was extra wide, normal depth, and a good price. I tell myself they all hold their value and I have gotten everything for a good price so I can always thin out later and not lose any money.

At this point I do not want to break the addiction and as long as I can get it off the truck without involving the wife she is OK with it.

This 'problem' started shortly after I joined this forum. I wonder if there is a connection? :dunno:

Unlike you guys, I haven't gotten hooked on the hard drug large cabinets.

You're an addict, but I can say I'm just a recreational user = machinist chest, top box roller cabs only for me. Of course, possession of thirty of those might me a be enough to have me prosecuted as a dealer some jurisdictions.

You are fine.

As long as your picking these cabinets up at a "great price" and know that you can flip them at equal or greater price you are simply operating a side business and you are not addicted.

Addicts over pay and hoard.

Keep up the great work!

the first step is admitting you have a problem, the next is letting me store any excess you don't have space for :D

What app do you use to constantly search Craigslist? I'm actually looking for another 24" Gladiator cabinet myself. Thanks

Haha, I am not at 30 yet, maybe in a couple of years. At 30, I think I might finally be satisfied. Ahh, whom am I kidding, I will never be satisfied as long as I have the CL app on my phone I will always be buying.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I do not think I will ever stop looking for good deals; however, at some point (when the garage gets too full) I will need to sell some. I have a couple of the old equipto 6x3 drawers that I am already thinking about selling. However, I saw on another thread someone refurbishing theirs and it got me thinking about doing the same.

Lol, thankfully, I still have quite a bit of room in my garage. Another warning sign it has become a problem is when I kick my truck out of the garage to make more room! So far, my truck is still nice and cozy in the garage.

I use CraigsPro+ by Escargot. It is an Android app (not sure if there is an iOS version). It is not too bad. When I have this app running, I search on a bunch of keywords and a 100+ mile radius so it drains the battery quickly. I cannot go a whole day without charging my phone. Usually I get a notification within an hour of the post time.

I think I will be looking for other apps to see if anything is better as I have had this one for quite a while now.

Here is another sign I may be out of control. These are the drawers to my Vidmars that I am in the process of painting. I just have to wait until Spring.

I have too many medium-sized drawers. If I could just find some cabinets with bigger drawers.....

I wish I could contract this sickness. Alas, my local (and regional) CL's are bereft of infection. :(

I can confirm that this app exists on iOS as well - great app.

Mine seems to be specific to Strong Hold cabinets. When they are cheap, I MUST buy. I have four of the standard widths in my garage and one in a storage unit. Haha. I also have two of the real wide ones at my office. They hold office supplies and banker boxes with old records and employee paper work.

In my mind, I could use a few more.... I blame Jack Olsen... :)

I have tasted this addiction. One year ago, I had zero industrial cabinets. Between April and September, I bought four.

What did you pay for the one in the first post? It looks awesome.

Ok, I gotta ask whats considered a "good" price? That cabinet was on Craigs for $1300 which IMO is about 3x a so-so price or 6x a good price.

http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/tls/3538864134.html

What one person thinks is a good price someone else may not as it is purely subjective. You consider an 18-drawer, extra wide, normal depth Lista cabinet at a price of about $200 a 'good' price. :wtf: I would consider that an INCREDIBLE (a 'you ****') price!!! As long as I have been looking I have never seen ANY kind of Lista cabinet at that low of a price. Heck, what you consider a 'so-so' price of about $400 is what I would consider a 'great' price. I consider a Lista cabinet of this size, number of drawers, and condition going at roughly 2/3s the asking price to be a 'good' price. Who knows when another one like this would be for sale near me.

As I said it is purely subjective. What I consider a good price you may consider a rip-off.

So you're saying you've seen Listas this size for around $200?:headscrat

Yup. $5-600 seems to be about average selling price for "full size" cabinets between the NE and midwest. The shorter cabinets that are popular for turning into desks and workbench bases usually go ~$300. Ive bought several of the 5' Vidmars for <$300 each, one of which is my main rollaround box. Not to say theyre not worth the $$$, bc Id readily pay up to ~$500 (and have for others) if I needed a tall one vs buying a roll cab or other "toolbox," but if I had the chance to wait I see these every few months for half that ($2-300).

In the early 2000s when I was still in the military and had no garage I went to an auction on Griffiss AFB which had closed a few years previous to help buy a truck for my brother. In one day they sold ~100 Vidmar/Lista/etc cabinets full of electrical, plumbing, and other hardware....many for <$100. Thats my idea of a "steal."

I wish I could post a pic of the Vidmar setup we have at work. We have the 5' cabinets bolted together and stacked in rows ~25 feet high and use a manlift to access the upper cabinets.

Strong hold are nice. I like the title of your second photo, raisedanddangerous! I had a close call getting a 6-foot Strong Hold out of my truck using my front end loader.

It is a sweet addiction. The last one you bought in September does that mean you are 'on the wagon'? You have been through rehab?

I paid $925 for it. The others I have I paid between $300 and $500. For the extra width along with all those drawers, I am happy at that price. I figured it could be a long time before I saw another one like that without driving for hours.

Haha, thanks. I have not yet reached the point of hiding purchases from her.
