I have a typical 2 car garage we are using as a workshop. Its a bit of a mess, as we still have some projects to finish.

Tasks done:

4x8 mobile work bench (eh wheels ****)
Shelving built
125A sub panel added (need to patch wall)
240V outlet for welder in between garage doors
LEDs partially installed
Husky tool box just added (bought used, still need to clean and move tools from small red box and garage to it)
10 x10 metal shed in backyard for coolers, lawn mower, bicycles, and "stuff"

On the immediate to do list (hopefully today)

Run EMT for air compressor and LED lghts, add the other 3 LEDS, and clean the garage

Our biggest issue is storage. It seems like we fill everything up so quickly, the workbench becomes a storage place, etc.

Part of the problem is I have an 18 y/o who.... well hes a slob.

Here are some things we need.

a 2nd table for his welding. He is thinking all metal or wood with metal top.

A better way to organize all those bottles on the shelf.

Some way to store all the parts from the 4 wheelers, jeep, trailer, etc.

Small item storage

Some thoughts are shelves or drawers under the bench for more storage

Spice rack style holder for all the bottles, pitched at an angle

I am looking for ideas.

It looks like you simply have too much stuff in a small garage

But there is alot of useable storage above your garage doors that is simply an open space now

Do you plan on parking cars in there? If not maybe plan on only using one garage door to open and close and start blocking the other one with shelving and storage?

At one point my son wanted to keep one side open so he could work on cars but hes kind of given up on that. Longer term plans include a carport on the side of the house and eventually building a full garage/workshop.

Think about adding a leanto across the rear of the garage. I have a 40x60 building and used 14' 2x6s to build a leanto. Now I can store large tools that I'm not using and roll them into the shop when needed. Its a reasonably cheap way to gain a lot of space. Also, watch Craigslist for the metal cabinets in the pictures. They are high quality and you can store a lot in them. I bought some nice "microfilm" cabinets for $50 each. Had to take the dividers out to have flat drawers, but they work great. Also bought other older cabinets that are similar for about $50. They work better than "tool boxes" when it comes to "other" tools and items.

Here are some better views of the cabinets. You have to watch Craigslist as they only come along every now and then. Also industrial auctions are a good place to get them.

my best advise is to finish a project, and clean up, before starting another one.

my garage is 18'D 22'w
ive managed to do a complete build (eng/trans swap, body modifications, full cage, seats/harnesses, fuel cell ect) for my off road toy, have enough room for multiple sets of (33" & 36"wide) tool boxes, cut off saw, shear, drill press, welder, and bender, and still have room to park the wifes new terrain & my Harley inside.

I don't keep "spares" or extra hardware sitting around. non garage related "stuff" ie: riding mower, garden tools, snow blower, weedeater, blower, pressure washer never get stored in the garage.

I already have a 10 x 10 storage shed out back. We have plans in the next year or two to do a detached workshop.

Im looking to see how people store misc small items.

I like the drawers for fasteners, electrical parts etc.

I am also looking at something for all those bottles of car cleaning stuff. I think its wasted space.

I am going to find a way to put shelfs and storage under the workbench.

Cant help you with the storage but you need to put an engine bag over the engine you have sitting on the stand before something gets dropped down in the intake ports :(

That engine is toast. Long story short my kid pulled it out and took it apart to see the insides and how it works. He has plans to rebuild it some day.... meanwhile it sits in my garage...

Hes got 2 jeeps, trailer, 4 wheelers, and a daily driver truck he works on all the time. I love his enthusiasm but I would love it more when he finishes school and gets his own house.

Then he can leave dirty fingerprints on the doors at his own place...8744ebfa0f90178d02e579750acaced9.jpg
