It has no lock. I would like to add one but I'm not sure what type of mechanism the box is supposed to have for the lock to function. When I feel inside and around the box where the lock hole is I do not feel and rod or lever that would connect to a lock. Should there be?

A coworker has an extra lock and key set from his snap-on box I can have if it will work. I also saw they sell lock and key sets at Sears in the tool box area but when I called HF they said they don't sell them.

Any input would be appreciated, and for those who are curious I paid $175 for the box delivered to my house from about 45 min away. It is the older crinkle finish, but all the drawers work great and it's just a little dirty which will clean up. There is one small ding in the top front lip but I like it because I don't have to worry about dinging the box myself so much!

I almost forgot, I have searched the forums and was unable to find any info on this topic!

Call HF and they'll sell you the lock mechanism. It comes with one, but you have to install it yourself, so they guy that sold you the box must have thrown out the lock, or maybe he still have it in his junk pile?

If you take the top drawer completely out, you'll get a better view of the locking mechanism, or see that it's missing.

Just felt around the 44's that we have around. There's a rod that goes straight into the back of the lock and heads toward the back of the box.

Unfortunately the boxes are loaded (and they are not mine) so pulling the drawer for pictures is kinda out.

EDIT: Decided to try the "Shove the phone in the drawer and hit the button a bunch" approach. Came out with a couple decent pictures. Hope they help.

I called HF and after waiting in queue for nearly 30 Min I spoke with Eric who informed me the lock rod that connects the lock mechanism to the bar in the back of the box has to be ordered and will take 10 weeks to arrive but the good news is it only cost $1.50!!!

I'm going to try to make one which will cost more than $1.50 in gas to drive to to the store to source parts... Hmmm.

Anyone have their box apart currently?

Great pics to solve the mystery lock rod but can't help noticing what looks like some heavy rust action going on within the HF 44 upper frame
