I've never taken one of those apart, but I'm wondering if he took the guts from a soft handled one and stuck them inside a hard handle. You could buy a soft handle screwdriver, a hard handle screwdriver, and the extra two shanks, all for under $300, and still assemble another soft handled one with leftover parts.

I've done that to several of my own drivers. Once you remove the cap, there is a small retaining clip on the driver shaft. The only problem I have had is that the clip is tough to get off without bending it.

Not available to the public. Kind of true. Snap on sells to professional mechanics and you probably couldn't find the components he's selling as regularly sold set in a snap on catalog. Adds to that whole Snap on is special and exclusive so it costs more line of thinking. Of course, there are also a lot of people that don't care for the soft grip or instinct handles but, i digress.

I am surprised at all of the finger pointing and hate directed at some ebay sellers lately here though. There will always be crazy listings on Ebay. We've all seen more than a few bidders pay over list price in auctions too.
Ebay is full of ads that misrepresent the actual product. I mean look at all of the Williams branded tools listed as Snap on. The listings that add the phrase snap on as a key word like "sockets snap on to the included rail" for example. Personally I can't believe people list harbor freight coupons for sale on Ebay.
Granted the sellers price is high but, I've had the same reaction when I've browsed the classified section here sometimes.

Any of the hard handle ratchet SD's can be easily modded to do that. SO sells the shafts in a set for the new soft grip, plus an additional set with regular screw driver shanks.

Just curious, what does the "mod" entail? Also, once the mod is done, do removable shanks snap in tightly? I notice even my fixed shank has a bit of play. I have 2 and they are both the same.

Can someone educate me on a decoding of the handle PN, or link me to a good thread here, or tell me to look it up my self in a prior SO catalog?
I would think that would normally be an easy tip-off to a buyer of what it's not but their site doesn't list that PN, so perhaps not.

Just wondering though... do the removable shanks seat tightly the same as they would in the soft grip driver?
If I remember right, this looks exactly like an old USA-made Kobalt set from several years back. I looked them up on Ebay, but don't see one. The kit was loaded with several shanks (bit and socket end, flex, different lengths) in a very nice case. An old boss of mine had one, and it was nice! You can imagine how much cheaper that set was...
