Hello from central North Carolina. By way of introduction, here is an oddball vise that I picked up recently. Can't find anything about the brand. Have you heard of MFV? Do you recognize the castings?

Has quick-release jaws.

There's an odd groove in the screw shaft. The part with a groove is free to rotate on the shaft. It appears to be 2 parts but they rotate together.

I've been looking through the vise thread. Lots of good work---thousands.

Turns out, the groove is for a pedal. If I yank on the handle (along the axis of the screw) the moving jaw pulls toward me.

They were sold prior to 2007 as T&O brand and you could get them from Penn and Travers. I think they sold for around 300 $ back then, with several jaws. So I didn't grossly over pay but I won't be getting any back slaps from the pickers.

From what I've found on the interwebs, blacksmith like foot vises but they're not as common as post vises. Maybe farriers use them? I tried to find other vises like this but the search engines return so many results for "vise" that I couldn't seem to narrow it down with any other terms. Search optimization has basically ruined that part of the internet. Chat bots also couldn't help much.
