I have the Nelson 50503 - Industrial Nozzle (High Flow Fireman's Style)

50505.jpg

http://www.lrnelson.com/industrial/50503

I got it on Amazon for $19 and it by far is the best nozzle I have ever used.

I have this one for outside use.. i actually got it at SAM's .. I paid 9.99 for it just last week,..

With that said, i too have the Griots nozzle with the shut off. It was purchased and has been used religiously for 10+ years with no issues. Its one of those high priced items i'm happy i bought.. I wouldnt mind a simple lever style though with the reliability of the Griot nozzle.

It's not a pistol grip, but I love this Craftsman nozzle:
07169040000-1

I thought it'd be the last one I'd ever buy, until I left it out after a freeze, and the ice broke it. The next one I ran over with my lawn mower...

Iced one myself. Craftsman gave me another. Now they go in the shed laying on their side in the winter...

Griot's doesn't make every single product they sell. That exact 100% metal nozzle is on sale for around $20.00 at every home improvement/gardening expo I go to.

If you want bulletproof, no frills, this is what I used to use before I got the Craftsman nozzles. Still have 2 of them. Same exact one my dad (and grandfather) use:

I've given up on the pistol grips for the same reason, and am back to the metal twist-types on my hoses.

Safe to assume that it is always in "Fan Spray Mode" or better said non- adjustable? I like the simple nature of the design. Do you have a picture of the very end of the sprayer? Thanks for sharing.

I was also terribly frustrated wit every garden hose I had ever bought. I mentioned this to my (now passed on) father inlaw, he was not happy with what was out there & had just finished building himself on of his own design. He gave me one & now I wouldn't give it up for love or money! It's made totally copper & works like nothing I have ever seen! I can turn my hose on full blast, water directly on a delicate flower garden & do zero damage to the flowers. It has a beautiful fan spray pattern that seems to fall like rain on its target & it never leaks (as long as you use a washer in it). It's a simple design with no moving parts to go wrong. I have run it over with my car more than once. It has been dropped many times & has even been thrown into a brick wall once! Other than a few scratches, it has no damage at all. I use quick connects & just unplug it when I want to shut it off.

I have since made a couple more for friends & they all love them.
I was thinking about trying to sell them, Would need to get about $20.00 for them. You guys think there might be a market out there for them at that price?:dunno:

Anyway here's a picture of 2 of them. One with a "quick connect" end on it & one plain.

I haven't bought one yet but it is an upcoming purchase. I love my Eley hose reels and hoses so much that I cant imagine this not being as great.
I've got a three of their reels and just bought several of their shut-off valves. Not cheap but they're REALLY well made. Same engineering they use in that nozzle set.

Brass straight nozzle, twist type backed by a brass plug valve. All available (or were) at Lowes. Don't buy the pot metal or plastic. The nozzle has a black cover to prevent drop damage.

I can't believe the **** out there these days. All I want is a pistol grip type sprayer that will turn on and off when I want it to and not dribble down my arm while I'm using it.

I haven't had anything that will do these simple things in the last few I've tried. I don't have high water pressure. I take care not to drop of misuse them. They just don't last. Some don't even work at the beginning. They get returned.

Can anybody recommend a decent sprayer? One made in North America.

Don't know about that but melnor is usually good for me. Probably not expensive enough to be made in "north america" though...like 4 bucks. I'm sure the craftsman ones are okay as well if they're all metal (some of them are)...don't know where those are made either.

Uh...if it's leaking from the connector it's probably a bad gasket/no gasket. You could just put some grease on the gasket and it shouldn't do it anymore (if the gasket is there).

I use the twist brass ones. Big Box. The rubber around them lasts ~4-5 years before it cracks and falls off. Item 228736 at Lowes for an example.

Plastic ones eventually crack, sometimes the first summer. The ones with levers have a habit of turning themselves on when putting them down.

I also use quick disconnects. Major time savings for long hose runs.

Re: those "kink-free hoses" mentioned in here; they are OK, but I had one that just sheared in two in about the middle, not from kinking or abrasion. It just totally cleaved in half. The problem is, you can't splice the darn things because of the ribs on the inside. So it became a costly hose in the trash.

The HF nozzle above is a good one. I used to exclusively buy Melnor or Nelson Made in USA but all of them failed at the plastic seat that is inside. Or the spring return action failed. MiUSA is not a guarantee of great design or materials.

Wish I knew all this 2 months ago. After years of frustration I broke down and bought the one from Griots. I'm not that happy with it. It's fine and I expect it to last many years, but I don't love the spray output as much as I expected.

Wow, I am not the only one. I put a quarter turn valve on my hose after getting fed up by all the ********. I spent hundreds in the first two years of owning my house. Only thing with the valve, is that you sort of have to be carefully when you turn it on initially. Sort of sprays all over the place.

Sort of like this, but all brass.

I went to the Griot website and thought it was pretty nice, lots of good things.... Then i saw the nozzle. I don't know about you guys, but the day that I pay $ 90.00 of a garden hose nozzle is the day that it will snow in hell. I'm SURE it is great, but I'll never know.

Funny, when I started reading this thread I was using a crappy plastic nozzle, replacing another plastic one that broke, and I thought "why not try the old-fashioned style?" I already had it; it only needed a new o-ring (which I also had on hand). I thought maybe the grip would be awkward but if I hold the hose it droops to the right direction automatically.

Also in the photo is a much older nozzle I bought at a yard sale recently. It would need the valve reground for regular use, as it leaks a little, but it works pretty well. Turn the valve one way for spray and the other way for full flow.

The rubber hose was another yard-sale buy.

Was on my Snap On dealer's truck the other day. He had a case of hose nozzles. Part #NOZZLEPG1. I picked it up and looked at it. Was pistol grip, had fire hose adjustment. Moved smoothly.

I then asked how much? $49.95 That's when I choked and put the nozzle down. Then I thought, you know if it is quality American made, maybe.

Nope China.

Bulls-Eye Power Nozzle*@#$made in the USA by US veterans. A bit pricey but worth every penny spent. It can be purchased online or at Home Depot or similar hardware stores. Brass fiting with a no leak guarantee. Most importantly it is made in the USA. I paid less then $10.00 at HomeDepot. I believe you can purchase from Amazon. Hope it works for you.

Foamer, I bought one of these maybe 20 years ago, and it lasted maybe 12. What was good about it was that it was so small; you could drag it across the lawn without it catching on things and tearing up the grass. The spray patterns are perhaps similar to the classic brass nozzles monomach mentioned, meaning somewhat limited. It works by having the three steel balls compress the inner rubber tube; the spray pattern changes as tube is compressed. Eventually the inner tube will deteriorate, at which point the nozzle will begin to leak, and at that point the end is near. It's more durable than the majority of the junk on the market, but it doesn't have a great jet, shower, fan, cone, etc. spray patterns.

Although I rarely use most of the patterns, I do like the nozzles with multiple spray patterns. One criteria of mine for any trigger-grip nozzle is that the trigger must be in the front. We all drop the nozzle between uses, and the rear-trigger nozzles invariably land on the trigger, spraying water all over everything you never intended to get wet, yourself included. I'm surprised no one else hasn't mentioned this.

Hi there!

and a Flexilla hose

The Flexzilla hose is the real deal! I have both the garden hose and their air hose, and they're the first hoses I've owned that don't make me angry trying to use them. You owe it to yourself to try one.

Anyone who likes the griots "ultimate" nozzle, I discovered they are available under a few different brands, in a billion sizes and features. 3/4" Garden Hose is the smallest size. If you have a 1"+ irrigation line before the pressure regulator, they have some big stuff that will put out some serious volume.

Kochek, S&H, & Underhill sell what looks like the same thing for various commercial uses.

Still haven't decided on what I want, and can't find any real world user reviews on the underhill/kochek nozzles. :willy_nil

The only one that has worked for me is the classic adjustable brass nozzle, like this one:

Probably the cheapest 'real' (new) fire nozzle you're gonna find, retail. Genuine Elkhart Fire Hose equipment. It may not work as-well w/o the larger volume pushed-through it, inlet is 1-1/2". We used these in 'High-rise packs" consisting of thin foldable hose in a donut roll X 2, for interior firefighting at a high rise building, after connecting to the hose cabinet in the interior hallway or somewhere along the common balcony/walkway. Lightweight, rugged, effective. Forty dollars at Grainger.com. Made in the U.S.A.

Years ago my dad sold Tri-Con nozzles. Heavy duty pistol grip with a nozzle that screwed on one way was cone shaped fan and the other was a stream. Amazon only has one that has been modified for a nursery/garden sprayer. Have not googled or checked ebay for them..

My dad was born with hose/hose reel/nozzle OCD .... there is no cure and passed through the male line. I have it as well. The perfect hose nozzle is an idea .. it should exist, but does not. A dripping hose was like the Chinese water torture to my dad.

My sister gave me one of the $50 +hydrant type when they first came out years ago .... I bought a $10 one from HF a couple years after and could not tell them apart. They are too big anyway -- metal or plastic ... they all leak. Same with the quick connects -- great the first season. Eley makes top stuff .. but my clan destroys as well. Just placed an order for some quick connects -- one kit and a few extra -- $109 bucks ..crazy.
