I have a Echo trimmer that starts pretty easy but, will only stays running if I keep it at almost full throttle. I've got new gas, air filter, and spark plug that is gapped correctly. I've checked the fuel line ,fuel filter, muffler screen, vent line, and for any loose screws. I've had it for about 9 years but , it has been used much. I've been watching youtube clips but, I haven't found one that has helped any yet.

Yep, clean the carb thoroughly or, as vavet says, replace it. I've heard mostly good about inexpensive Eb*y carbs. Be sure to check the availability and prices on an OEM carb tho. You might also find an OEM, or aftermarket rebuilt kit.

I picked up an Echo trimmer last fall off the curb. Homeowner was outside and told me it wouldn’t run right. I bought an Amazon carb and the Echo fuel line/filter kit and it runs perfect. I wouldn’t mess with trying to rebuild the carb for the cost of a new one.

Also search YouTube foe Echo trimmer videos. I had an Echo trimmer that wasn't running right. Although it was still under warranty the dealer wouldn't touch it. Watched a few videos and one of them was describing the problem I was having. Followed the instructions and mine hasn't missed a beat since. Should send a thank-you to that dealer. Saved me a bunch of money. Now I have a new Echo dealer also,

I've owned a 1967 Series IIA 88 diesel since 1973. What model Land Rover do you own?

I had a few minutes tonight and it does start and runs at lower rpm but , will only idle for a few seconds before it dies. Does the little hidden brass screw on the side of the carb have a standard setting like a turn and a half off bottom ?

is it a zama carb? If so I haven't seen to much success in rebuilding them in the blower and trimmer models. Pitch and replace. Also you said you checked the fuel line, How? at that age it needs a replacement, both the one in the tank and out. A pin hole can be impossible to see and can cause syptoms like you described. Also tank vents can clog as well, to test them leave the fuel cap cracked open and see if it runs correctly.

I just checked the fuel lines for blockage. I blew very low psi air through the vent line and I tried running it with the gas cap loose. It is a Zama carb. Thanks.
