I can’t remember what this is

Cleaning out and downsizing, I found this in my box. The initials are those of a coworker, so must be early 1970s. Why it was in my box and what it was for, I can’t remember. That was a general mechanic shop, so, though I am sure it was a good purchase at the time, I can’t recall anything about it. Anyone know? Only marks are “Pat. Pend”.

Alternator turning tool

fan belt tensioner, primarily for alternators . use a ratchet to twist the tool and thus pushes outwards on the alternator, tensioning the belt

Funny, I don’t remember ever using anything other than a screwdriver or pry bar for that. I guess you are right. I also don’t know how it wound up in my box. The original owner passed away about a month or two ago. He was a good mechanic, though I remember thinking a bit lacking in finesse. Who knows?
