I cheated

So, I figure I might as well post this up. I finally broke down and committed to gaining more space. I have a 3 car garage, 26' deep x 34' wide with another kickout that has to be about 8'x8'. The 1 car area is for my Cobra and it's construction. The 2 car is for my wife's vehicle and overflow from the 1 car. That said, it had started to get cluttered and I hate clutter. So I got approval from the financial committee (wife) and the HOA for a shed.

I cheated though. I picked it out and paid for it. Tuff Shed brought it in and set it up while I drank beer and watched.

Behold my 12'x20' with 13'10" peak.

Inside.

Plenty of room for a loft on both ends.

I was really happy to find nothing but very straight and high quality 2"x4" studs and framing more consistent with a house than a shed.

I only had two weeks with the shed before I had to go back to work. So next trip home I have plans to keep building out the inside. Electrical box with 220v and a few 110v outlets. I need power for lights, compressor, grinder/buffer, fans and other stuff. The plan is put a 60gl compressor in the very back corner and run a line from the shed to the garage wall 20' away and just connect/disconnect when I am in there working and need it.

I'm shocked you can have sheds in that "hood" looks like a nice unit though.

Very nice!

I'm debating on getting a shed or a carport for the side of my house--I don't want to fill the garage with stuff and not have the space to wrk in peace :p

I got a decent spot for a small one:

any flak from the HOA after the shed went up?

did they expect something approximately the size of a doghouse? :D

That's not cheating ... just skillful exploitation of a loophole Well done.

Thanks. It was a compromise between a full blown 2nd (2 car) garage with mother in law suite and a shed. I figured all I needed was a shed so aim high and settle.

Actually, they approved this very 12'x20' last year on April 8th. I have just not been home much in the past year to get it done. I sent them an email on April 2nd when I got home and advised them that unless they responded in 48 hours I was carrying forward the previous approval. Never got a response. Haven't received any certified letters yet either.

There are dozens of these in our neighborhood. We are on 1.4ish acre lots so there is plenty of lot left.

Hell, we have our share of massive garages in our neighborhood. As long as the HOA approves they are good to go.

My garage space has a/c, tons of lights, drop down electric cords, and tons more. I just needed to get all the spare parts, tire/wheel sets, etc out.

Are you here in DFW? It looks like a DFW-type neighborhood.

Yep. Haslet.

Ya gonna put a loft in it? with all the ceiling height you got a lot of square footage up there

For sure will. Not sure how much of one though. I am thinking about 4'-5' deep on each end so I have the center open.

My thought exactly...

I couldn't imagine not having one in my shed, even if all it does is enable my wife's hoarding of useless crapp.

Sadly, it is my car parts hoarding and not my wife's fault that mandated this shed.

Dang

I looked at the first picture ant thought you were my neighbor. The house behind yours is very very similar to the layout of the front of ours.

With two live oaks and the tippy chimney. I want a shed like that but are HOA is not quite as well open minded. I'll leave it at that.

Our HOA is ran by a board of folks that actually live in the neighborhood and use common sense. However, the HOA management company did screw me over by ripping up the ditch in front of my house for "drainage reasons" (I didn't have any problems) and left me with the costly repair to the sprinklers and to re-sod. Wasn't happy to fork out $2,000 right at Christmas.

It not cheating, you can afford to have someone do it for you while you watch. Sometime a lot of us wish we could get away with that too !

That's not sad... that's how it's supposed to be!

There is an infinitely greater chance that you would need a center console for an 84 Celica than you would need 3 rubber maid totes filled with backpacks and purses.

(I'm just assuming on the purses. I won't judge.)

I'm seriously disappointed. 20 posts and no one asked for pics of the Cobra...

Though, I must agree with the sentiment of drinking beer while someone else works...

Let's see the Cobra. Where did you source the "package?" What are you running under the hood? Pictures of all kinds of stuff that can be put in a shop or garage are posted here regularly and, for the most part, appreciated. Wives and/or girlfriends, beer drinking buddies, dogs, the occasional cat, machinery of all types, tools of all types, cabinets, tool chests, hot rods, tractors, sports cars, antique cars, two post lifts, four post lifts, welders, work benches, shop lighting, shelves, power washers, etc. etc. Show us everything worth sharing.

We are on the other side of the metroplex--near Allen/Parker, good to see another DFW person added to our cohort. I'll add to the group requesting pics of the Cobra! I'd love to do a Daytona Coupe replica one of these days....

I saw your post and wanted to say i cheated too. First off that is a very nice shed and congrats. I wanted one of the smaller composite/plastic ones for the backyard, i just wanted all the yard tools and junk like that out of the garage. My HOA said no, no one wants to see a shed. I said fine went and got this and use it instead. Mower, weed whacker, brooms, shovels all that fit real nice. Side doors screwed shut and back door cant be lifted when backed up to garage.

The shed was build by Tuff Shed and purchased through Home Depot. They were at a 2 week delivery backlog but after I told them I was home on leave and only going to be home for 2-1/2 more weeks they squeezed me in and delivered within 3 days. I can not say enough praises about the folks at Tuff Shed. I was getting calls for several days afterwards to check on my satisfaction.....and not a single one felt intrusive.

Since folks asked. The Cobra is a 1995 Cobra convertible with 32,000 miles. Just a simple 650rwhp (old combo) turbocharged 348ci Dart motor, individual coil near plug - distributorless ignition, on E85 with a Viper spec'd T56, full Maximum Motorsports suspension, and a boat load of other custom touches.

This is with the small wheels/tires. It was raining when we left the house the day before for the Hot Rod Power Tour
DSC_2866.jpg

Under the hood at 650rwhp on 14# of boost and only 6200rpms.

Right now, she is mostly apart again. New changes are the addition of the Holley Dominator EFI system with EVERY fluid but the washer and muffler fluid having it's temp monitored. Adding an air to water intercooler being built right now by Behind Bars Race Cars. New full Autometer gauge cluster and a bunch of other little goodies.

I know you guys where hoping for a Cobra kit. Sorry. If it is any consolation, Lone Star Classics is less than 2 miles from our house.....even though I like the FFR much more.

That cardboard mockup is the air/water cooler being built. Being built to allow me to add ANOTHER turbo down the road too. I am thinking a pair of 67s and A/C & power steering for a 1,000rwhp street car. Hopefully the car is running in October. Still need to mount the kid seat in the back for our 18 month old daughter among this round of upgrades.

We had old two post with chicken wire fencing and I put up a nice new fence after submitting approval to them (that they had over two months before I put it in and never said much) then when it went up BOOM letters (none certified though so who knows if I ever got them) ;)

I put up our wrought iron fence (440' and used 120' of the neighbors) the day after we closed on the house. Never submitted a property modification request and never heard a peep about it.

Btw--thanks for your service to our country.

thanks. I was active duty for 4 years in the Marines. But I have spent the last 8 years in Afghanistan as a contractor.

Wow, the Mustang with a 650rwhp sound like a lot of fun.

It was. But 800rwhp is gonna be even more fun.

Thanks!!

I am debating on buying a prebuilt shed myself. Looking at the r700 at home depot or the premier pro retail unit from tuff shed. About 500 more gets the architect shingles greater pitched roof and pre coated sealant on the inside walls same stuff on the inside of ceiling. The 10x12 is about 3700 after adding a window, 12foot shelf, paint and a couple more extras. Would you know what the material cost on that would be? The steel frame underneath is interesting. I won't need a slab or would frame.
