I could use some advice about our pole building.

Hello, in the fall of 2017 on my family's property in Northwest PA we had a pole barn put up. It was kind of a different build due to the fact that the garage is 40X48 and it was built on top of a 50x60 ft slab of concrete. ( There was a previous building there that collapsed.) There was a new slab of concrete poured inside the building after it was built, along with a moisture barrier. So the floor of this building is a good 12" of concrete.

At any rate, the bottom 4-5 inches of the skirt board is exposed to weather on this pole barn and although it is treated wood I would prefer to make sure it never rots.

What would you members suggest for protecting the skirt board? Currently it is soaked due to the never ending rain we seem to be getting this year. The building does not have gutters which I know is a mistake and I will be correcting that as soon as I can.

There's a product by Nudo called Ground Breaker. I used it on my 26x40 dog kennel below the siding to keep the wood dry because we wash out the kennels daily. It has worked great for that. Hope that helps

Really nice looking building.

So the floor of this building is a good 12" of concrete.

I put a cubic yard of cement under each column on my hoist and tied it into the 6" thick floor with re-bar. I would have just bolted it down with a floor as thick as your's.

What would you members suggest for protecting the skirt board?

Mine is just PT wood like yours and it's still in good shape after 25 years. I'm in southern Ontario and the climate is the same as Michigan, Ohio, Indiana etc. The building has gradually raised itself up about 3-4 inches over the years though so I'm gonna dig it out a bit around the perimeter and add a regular PT 2x4 below the existing 2x6. I could see daylight under the skirt board so I added fence boards along the bottom temporarily so snow doesn't blow in this winter. Assuming we get some snow. Only used my blower twice last winter and not at all this year so far.

Gutters, a french drain and gravel 2-3 feet out.

And put a gravel pit in for the gutters with an out flow pipe
