Run away quickly. That's not good for anything. No lead screw and apron, no compound, no back gears, no nothing. Junk.

I didn't think much of it but I thought if I could get it for $100 I might buy it, is it worth $100? Thanks

Sell it to this guy: It appears to be a Harper & Reynolds.

He might want it for parts. Your cast in bed dates MATCH his lathe exactly--hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info, after thinking about it there's too many parts missing....I'm in for $25 though.

For $100 I would buy it to use as a wood lathe.
I would not buy it for a metal lathe, not enough of the desired features on that one

My guess is it was originally a foot-treadle driven lathe based on its apparent age, size, operational simplicity, and the miscellaneous attachments on the center of the leg set under the headstock.

IIRC, there was a company named "W.F. & John Barnes" that made fairly basic lathes back in the old days. It kind of appears to me that is what could be cast into the leg set under the tailstock.

Value?? No value as a metal lathe, but it could probably be used as a wood lathe with a few simple modifications. Beyond that, the two leg sets are probably the most valuable parts as they are in fairly high demand as "industrial retro" style furnishings as table legs etc. Check out this eBay listing:

Your wife might love to have them in her "steam punk" themed boudoir!!

Where is this lathe located?
I would be happy to own it for $100 and would use it as a wood lathe.

I agree that it was once a foot treadle machine that was converted over
