Was browsing the Matco catalog during some slow moments this morning at work. Saw the 6S boxes and how you can configure them, and colors available. Slowly shut the catalog and stepped back because I'm going to get into trouble.

Got home, configured a 3 bay box.........and

Are you kidding me? $12790 for a dang tool box? Sadly, I'm contemplating how I can do it.

I'm just salivating over a white, blue rails, stainless top, with my own drawer configuration.

I'm thinking of working this angle, but still, how much could you realistically talk that down? A bargain at $8K? Still too rich for my blood. I'm going to have to just sit down and admit that until I win the lottery.....it ain't happening.

THat's what I'm afraid of. Just more temptation to add to the list. No trade in though, just my CM combo that's extremely tight on space.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to find a used industrial box and custom paint it, add some fancy trim, order some custom drawers? Like, a lot cheaper?

I know it doesn't mean much coming from a guy with a 40" 21 Drawer Craftsman he got on Black Friday for half price, but damn, $12,000 is A LOT for any toolbox.

Lista. That way I don't have to worry about the sheet metal being too thin.

I splurged and bought a new Snap On Classic 96. I've wanted one for 30 years and am finally at a stage in life where I can afford it. Did I need it....hell no but it's cool looking sitting in my shop.

Life is to short. If you can afford it and want it, buy it.

There is absolutely no justification to buying a large Snap On tool box other than the simple fact that I wanted it and can afford it.

IF Lista only had a marketing and finance program they could sell a few of these.

Draw choices and configurations should be everything at this cost point.

WHY should you have to settle when your paying these costs.

SNAP ON cant touch the above box in terms of square inches of storage per $$$$

Matco's ability to configure a box so much differently is the one thing I told the Snap-on toolbox guy they need to consider adding to their lines....If I had a decent Matco dealer, I would have definitely gotten a quote from him when I was tool box shopping....

And yeah, the "deals" / trade-ins and all that make it pretty easy to afford just about any box you'd want....just don't get in over your head.

Love is Blind. About 25% of the ads on CL are for gigantic name brand toolboxes from people who have lost their jobs and can no longer pay for them. Maybe you could fall in love with an almost new, used one too.

Yea, except I own five cars...and didn't pay 12 grand for all of them...combined. Everybody has different things they like spending money on, so more power to you if that's what you enjoy. People think I am rediculous for having 5 cars (wife's isn't included in that total) so who am I to judge?

But the mechanics in here are often talking about how it's a grueling way to make a buck. It doesn't sound like $12,000 comes too easily, at least not to the guys I have heard talking.

Even though I said that, I still think 12K is way too much to pay for a bunch of sheet metal and some paint. That Lista box at 1/2 the price is probably twice the box. They make the only box I know of where you can stack brake rotors on top of each other in a deep drawer and the drawer won't phased by the weight it in the slightest.

I'm just daydreaming right now anyway. But it's enough to make me carefully scour Craigslist for a deal. I don't think I ever plan to purchase a truck brand box new off the truck. They're just too much money. I want to see one of the Extreme boxes from Strictlytoolboxes in person before going there. My biggest requirement when I do upgrade is going to be depth of the drawer (front to back depth). I want at least a 24" deep drawer. These 18" aren't cutting it. If I could get away with 18", I'd be all over the HF 56" box for $700 on the coupon.

Their prices are heavily inflated. It don't cost anywhere near 12K to make that box.

Just saying I bought a 6s and it is hands down a nicest box I have played with. Tried the epiq and the krl as well as the macsimiser and hands down i love the 6s.

I guess I'm cheap, but $12k could literally line my garage's walls in HF toolboxes. I could live with the difference in quality. Or better yet, buy some tools to put in the boxes. Still, it is the OP's money and for the moment, it is a somewhat free country...
