I couldn't resist the PB Swiss stuff going for almost sane prices (70% off) on Amazon, so I bit for two mallets.

PB Swiss 297/3 Mallet $12.95
PB Swiss 303/4 Dead Blow Mallets $25.82

First one isn't dead blow, but its only like 12 oz, second is dead blow and about 20 oz.

I still need to find a nice brass hammer, but these should fill the lower range and all my precision whacking needs, then I step up to a 32 oz Harbor Freight orange thing.

Can you please tell me if the replacement heads on the PB Swiss 297/3 have threaded studs.

Thanks

I can't get to them right now, but I am pretty sure they are not screw in, but snap in, and are not designed for easy on/off only replacement.

How are you liking the dead blow. That is a small one isn't it ?
Thus far all of the PB Swiss i have purchased has exceeded my expectations.

Trying to decide which dead blow hammer to get. Both looks good and within range as I want 20ish oz. Maybe you guys can help.

Which is better Shot filled or Washer Filled heads?

@Monte Have you tried one of these Wiha hammers?

tks

I don´t have a Wiha hammer yet (on the wishlist though...) only 2 "Halder" and one "Gedore" shot filled recoilless hammer. I guess there will be not a big difference between Wiha/Halder/Gedore.
I have 1 PB Hammer which i found used on a flea market. Compared to the shot filled hammers it seems that the PB hammer sometimes "jump up" after striking different materials (wood, cast steel, forged steel), the shot filled hammers seem to "stick" better to the material you strike.
I dont know, i only have the one PB hammer and would like to hear another opinion from users who have both styles. So far i like shot filled hammers better.

Thanks Monte.

Ordered a Wiha 80230. The weight and head is right but I wished the handle was a bit longer.

I just hope it's still German Made. :) The amazon picture shows it to be Made in Germany though.

I believe PB Swiss does not outsource yet but Wiha does.

You can email them at wihatools.com. Paul Allen is the man there and it very forthright and a super nice guy. I asked about the Torx bit sockets I bought and he was very straightforward. Bits Germany, sockets "imported", assembly and rail from US.
