I finally figured it out

A few GJ mantras are:
your shop is never too big
you can never have too many clamps
bigger is always better

I determined there is a time when you shop is too big.
That is when you're cleaning the gutters.
I hate being on a ladder.
I hate finding a mama bird who built a nest in my gutter.
I hate finding dead baby birds in my gutter.
I hate it when my gutter cleaning person doesn't call me back or show up to do work so I have to do it myself.
I hate coming down off the ladder and turning around and seeing a 5 foot long black snake. I know he's a black snake and not poisonous, but it's still a bit disconcerting.


I'm trying to remind myself to be more thankful. I'm grateful to have my health and physical abilities back enough so that cleaning my own gutters is an option, unlike last year prior to surgery for a herniated disc.
I'm thankful for having a nice house with a nice detached garage that have gutters than need to be cleaned.
I'm thankful for having a great wife who understands my need to build, repair, and tinker.
I'm thankful for having SOME time (but not all the time) furloughed from my job so that I can work on things around the house.

I put a single straight line gutter on the shop front. I'm about to cut it in half, it leaks at the half way point anyhow LOL. Nothing but a catch bucket for Mesquite needles and misc trash.

I hear you on cleaning gutters. The gutters on my shop are very close to the metal roofing, and it's really sharp. Ouch!

Blowing leaves today and ran into a 5 ft blackie. Don't mind having them around but a little concerned about our dogs.

More to the point, I am thankful my wife and I have a rural retreat on the river where we can self isolate during this pandemic and I can work on my cars. We think about those folks having to isolate in city apartments and especially those elders in nursing homes who are not even allowed to leave their own rooms. We truly have many things to be thankful for and independence in our 80's is a big one.

By the way, I need to clean my gutters tomorrow! Why did you have to remind me?

Just cleaned my gutters this morning. First of the season. Blew them out weekly last fall with the extension on the leaf blower.

Still glad I can do it with some knee pain going on while I climb the ladder. Stuff was still wet from the rains we’ve had over the weekend.

So close to a perfect business model. I'd have my gutters cleaned every month by girls in bikinis.

My gutter guards shed everything but oak pollen. It sticks, and eventually forms a mat the makes the water go over the top instead of into the gutter. I need to get out there and clean that **** off now that pollen season is over.

I found a local guy who we use 2x year. He's reasonable, does a fantastic job, and usually makes it out that very day or only a day or two later. Ask around, maybe you'll find a recommendation.

I don't mind popping up a couple of times/year on a ladder to open up the entry for the downspout, but after doing it once, I do NOT go up on our roof for anything.

I had to promise my neighbor that I would tell her or her husband when I was going up on a ladder then call when I get done. She will check if she doesn't hear from me. I'm not too old but I am single.

I am thankful for them.

My garage is a garage/shop. The car is parked in there at night and I've got it arranged so I can work in there even with the car parked. I sometimes wish for more space but I also realize that I need to get rid of some stuff.

You will. Just not as often. But now it's harder because you have to remove the gutter guards to do it.

BTW, Gutter Glove eliminates gutter clogging, cleaning and nesting forever. Mine are over 20 years old, the gutters are spotless and I've never touched them.

Gutters are a necessary evil. I was told by a guy here that monitors for the West Nile disease that there are more mosquito breeding grounds in peoples eves troughs and yard debris than in the ditches and swamp areas in our county. Nobody pays much attention to their gutters though. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

That's my situation on the shop. On the house I have gutter guards. 5 years & there still working & not clogged up.
