I found and old re settable screw in fuse.

Mine has a black top but otherwise the same. It's a Signalite-6 and the window I assume is a pilot light. I haven't screwed in into anything because I don't have anything to screw it into.

Well, I guess I could use a table lamp.

New to me. I'm an old fart and this thing is as old as I am.

Yeah, rlitman, I'd have to rewire the lamp. Too much effort. Only E26 socket I could think of off hand.

Or use alligator clamps on the plug end.

I'm not and expert... but we had screw in fuses at our house when I was a kid. If it's blown just put a penny under it and screw it back in (kidding! kidding!)

If you test it, you have to put it in series with a load that will keep the current below the rated current of the fuse right?

I wonder if the light (if that's what it is) is actually a blown fuse indicator.... meaning it actually lights up when the fuse blows. That is common on industrial fuses I've dealt with but they are in terminal blocks so the circuitry is in the block not the fuse.

UPDATE - Just snapped to the fuse being re-settable. Never seen that. Interesting.

Not that uncommon. They are pretty crappy compared to a real breaker or fuse. I'm guessing it's thermal only.

I recall those about 1955-ish. But then UL went bullish to 3 wire and old knob&tube was supposed to be replaced (ha) and screw-in fuses were grandfathered in.

We had a cape at the beach w/ fuses when I was a kid .. built in the 50's. Back then 40 amp total was not uncommon .. many with only 110 service. Even small houses in the burbs got 60amp. We had a couple add on boxes at the beach house -- added as it got a dryer/dishwasher and finally AC. For safety most people went with the fast blow type fuse -- but if you had AC (window unit) they would blow ... even some on a time delay. We had a bunch of those screw in fuse breakers -- my memory was the indicator was just that -- a window -- like a breaker .. no light. At the beach there would be power problems -- everybody would have fuse blow and the local hardware store would sell out .. we had a stack of the fuses next to the boxes and a flashlight on the wall. The 220's would fail as well. Fun memories !

I just purchased a home in Illinois and the fuse box was a two circuit with 2 screw in fuses. A kit house built in 1960 (there are 8 of these houses in our block).
Refused to buy until seller had a circuit panel with breakers put in. That was 2019.
