Less than 20 bucks for that set? That's a pretty good price. I have those ratchet wrenches and they haven't broke on me yet over a year later

Not bad, the sears by me just tried to scam people who weren't really aware.

For example I saw a few kits when I'd stop in going for 60 dollars now had stickers listing them for 120 and then marked them down with MEGA SAVINGS to like 80 dollars. Had there actually been mega savings I would a bought a bunch, but after that I was pretty pissed

That's how liquidation sales work. Everything gets marked up to full retail, then the liquidation discounts are applied, and slowly lowered over the course of the liquidation term.

Sears staff may be manning the registers, but the company hired to do the liquidation is who's setting pricing.

But if the "regular" price of an item is 60 dollars (I mean, I saw it not discounted in store for months at that price) how does full retail then go to double that price?

I could be wrong and sears was "ok" with selling said item at that 60 dollar price, and then it played out as you say, but by the time I came through again the store was already closed. I think the 60 dollars may have already been liquidation price, then they bumped everything for a last ditch cash grab. At least, that's how it seemed at the sears by me.

I wasn't pissed at sears, just pissed that I couldn't buy anything at a good price, everything was much higher priced than when I strolled through a week before lol

When the Sears near me closed, items that were perpetually on-sale ("Everyday Low Price!") stopped being on sale.

Stuff that I thought was "regular" priced, turned out that it wasn't, when comparing against the website (which showed "regular" price and the perpetual "sale" price).

It's a stupid setup, I'll agree with you on that. Items that were, as you say, $60 at a seemingly "regular" price got bumped up to $120, but you could drive 20-ish miles north to the Sears that wasn't being closed, and it was available for $60, plus whatever SYWR discounts you might have.

Really, the Sears liquidation sales are a trap for those that don't pay attention.

Stupid to us, the consumers who want something for as little as possible.

A bit less so to the liquidation company, who wants to sell everything for as much as possible... and who DGAF about any long-term consequences, because why would they? We'll jack the prices, people will ****** up anything that's actually a deal ASAP, suckers will buy stuff for more than they could've otherwise, others will pay more than they would usually because if they wait until it hits the next % up, it might be gone. By the time the "real" discounts are in effect, all that's left is ****. TBH a small set of ratcheting wrenches for $16 doesn't look different to me from the GW sets that are $15-20 every holiday?
