So I got this huge 85 CFM Ingersoll Rand Gyro Flo air compressor to soda blast and paint with since it will have enough CFMs for both, plus some. It is powered by a flathead four cylinder Continental F140 engine. Is anyone here familiar with sand blaster hose connections? Specifically the larger industrial types which look like they are some kind of twist lock design. The hose on there right now is ~1-1/4" OD I am guessing. I am trying to find a simple adapter to knock these down to a usable size for normal air hose connections. Here are some pics of the unit.

Those fittings are made by "DIXON " Google is your friend . Those are great compressors , I'd go thru it and change all the oils , and filters....There is a Coalescer inside the machine , its a tank with a dozen or so large bolts and the air out let is plumbed to it .It separates the oil from the air. If its dirty , it restricts air flow, and if it puts out oily air , it's damaged or torn. $$$ but neccessary ......

I was already able to source the fittings, I am just looking for an adapter/reducer to get them down to a more conventional hose output so I can use regular sized air tools with them. I just haven't had any luck finding anything that looked like it might work yet. Thanks for the tip about the coalescer too, I'll have to look into that.

I guess what I was imagining/hoping was something along the lines of a dixon connector that had a standard size Q/D fitting on the other end to be able to temporarily hook up air tools to the end of the existing line but still be removable when I want hook up the abrasive blaster.

Dixon makes fittings with all sizes of pipe thread , male and female, I've used them all my life... I'm guessing you want a sliding collar sort of QD, Pick what pipe size that has and select a corresponding Dixon Fitting.....

What you have is available in all sizes and is 10 times safer than the dlick on type.

So any ideas on local places that might carry this type of fitting? I am guessing they are more of an industrial/commercial type of equipment.

I would try a tool rental place. They have compressors with your fittings and probably can help you out with the adaptor you need.

Thanks for the leads on the fittings, I'll try taking one off of the ends of the hose and bringing it down for them to match up. And yes, the compressor does have a license plate, but it is now unnecessary since NV does not require plates for "mobile equipment" trailers.

In NC, if you take a trailer and bolt or weld a machine to it permanently, it does not require a plate, either. Neither does a dedicated farm use trailer, such is used for gathering crops. A trailer used to haul a mobile piece of equipment down the road needs a plate. I once had a mobile compressor like the OP, and used to couple it up to the shop air system through a port through the back wall. This was used to power up my blast cabinets to have plenty of air. At other times, the unit was used to power a large commercial sandblaster pot. I should have kept it.

Dale B,

I have a Ingersoll Rand G85 Gyro Flo portable compressor too. I need to change the oil in the compressor and check out the coalescent filter filter. It looks like someone in the past put red transmission fluid in the compressor part. I would like to change it to the recommended oil, 10W. It looks like there are two drain valves on the compressor oil. One in the coalescent filter tank and one down low in the compressor itself.

Any thoughts?

Is it a Nevada plate? It looks like a Kalifornia "SE" plate (special mobile equipment). I think Kali still requires SE plates for construction equipment like compressors, welders, and other machines on trailers, so you're lucky you're over the border. :D

We run ATF in the 3 we have on the farm. Ours are rebranded Sullivan models. Call you local industrial compressor deal to verify.

You dont use compressor oil, use hydraulic fluid . Anti foaming is the best , some people automatic transmission fluid. It will work, but not recomended. Originally 10w was factory recommendation but just like an engine you could probably use a thicker viscosity.
