I got a swench kit HUGE!

So I just got this new in box swench kit it has the 3/4 drive with all accessories and the 1" with all accessories plus all the sockets for both, I did however have a question about it, so although it has never been used I honestly have no idea how old/when it was manufactured, does anyone know if the date code is in the serial number? They both have 97 at the beginning so I'm assuming that's when they where made, for some reason both of them where set to #3 torque range as well and again I'm assuming they've been set there for a while, they say they're supposed to be set to 1 when stored so do I need to get new springs for them now? Has anyone dealt with power hawk customer service? And perhaps know the cost?

Do you reset yours to 1? I'm gonna try them tomorrow but I really have no perception of if they're weak or not because I've never used one

Called swench today, they were very friendly and are going to have there production manager call back on Monday about springs.

Nice score. The spring could take a set if left stored long enough, much like a "clicker" Torque wrench, but I bet some use to "excercise" it and it would be right back to normal or near so. Somewhere in the archives of Garage Journal are some threads pertaining to these tools. You'll want to do a search engine search like google I'm sure to find those threads. At one time I REALLY wanted to get one of those, but could never find a deal. All in all I doubt you'll have any problems, they are overbuilt to be sure.

@kctyphoon- They are a manual impact wrench, you wind them up and then they'll let go depending on where they're set to "impact" off a nut or bolt. Old WW2 technology originally for aircraft. I think Pratt and Whitney had them originally.

You always want to set it back to the lowest setting, the manual tells you to do this. I love your case, wish I had that, mine are also in the awkward metal cases. I even have a half inch version, but it seems more like a gimmicky toy than a tool.

Yea the manual also says you can putt spacers in the spring if it doesn't measure a certain length but I'm not sure if that's for "worn out springs" or potentially new ones that are shorter.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, go out and use it a few times. If it isn't hitting hard you'll know it.

Curtiss-wright was the original manufacturer. I knew it was aircraft related, just took me a couple minutes to remember, lol.
