just not to my detached garage. I was under the assumption that calling the gas company that charges me monthly for the gas usage would be the best bet to call to get a gas line installed out to the garage.

Apparently not, anyone have any clue what trade does this? HVAC, Plumbing, other...

I would say it is about a 75foot run

Plumbers primarily.

You will need a building permit.

Its not hard to dig a trench and bury the 1" yellow plastic pipe. Have a plumber do the rigid connections on both ends and connect to your piping system in the shop. You will need to Tee into your house system. You will also need to know if your gas supply to the house has the capacity to supply the shop and house at the same time.

Of course I'm simplifying, but others can give more details.

I had my HVAC contractor run the gas line and install a Hot Dawg heater for me. I dug the trench and let them do the rest. I had about a 150 foot run. Took advantage of having them there to replace a couple ancient shut off valves in the basement. It wasn't cheap but I have the satisfaction of knowing it was done right.

have 2 plumbing companies coming out to quote. A local HVAS guy told me to call a plumber.
I dont think we will have to worry about supply, most have advised to run it off the meter directly.

I did this a couple years ago. Girlfriend dug the trench to the depth requested by the HVAC installer. He did the rest.
