Don't know much about vacuums, but I've installed a lot of Miele DW.

The more you pay for a DW, the less likely it is to work.

Ok, goofy title. :willy_nil

But earlier this week our 11 year old Miele Vacuum cleaner stopped working. Wife told me to start shopping them and find us a replacement. She about threw up when I told her a replacement with the same features, same brand was $1100.00 :shocking:

I let her sit on this thought, played it up big time too! Then I pulled the old, "Well, let me see if I can throw a few band-aids on it and get it running again..."

Simply using a T-10 and a T-20 Torx, it was completely disassembled. Found a fried resistor on the circuit board. Thought about researching the board on line and just swapping out the resistor, but me being an electronics tech decided that if it was fatigued, probably the other 5 or 6 components were too. Yea, small board.
$98 later with new board in hand from local dealer, it's repaired!

Wife was happy, very happy! And that's when I took advantage of the situation and told her to never, ever ***** again when I order new tools! :lol_hitti

Good job, dude!! I'm giving this thread a five star rating just because of the fine job you did.

Marital bliss. The wife wanted the world's best HEPA vac because she was afraid of lead paint dust in our 300 yr old house.
Yes, but a Miele is FAR from the world's best vac, let alone the world's best HEPA vac...:lol_hitti

Tommy

Yeah, let me rephrase that:

The wife wanted WHAT SHE BELIEVED TO BE the world's best HEPA vac. ;)

After two divorces, you learn to pick your battles. :D

we used to buy new vacuums at stores... then we discovered Goodwill Outlet (everything is priced based on weight). I have bought 2 Oreck XL commercial vacs. only thing that needed replaced was the belt (which an extra one was in the "replacement belt holder").
due to the weight, they were both about $5 each. i went a few weeks later and found bags for both. 9 bags only cost a few dollars!!!
gave one to my parents when their Oreck went out after 10 years of service, mine is still in use.
we have also found a Dyson at GW outlet. we only pull that one out when we need to use the hose part as the Orecks do not have one.

Wifes are wonderful for many things. But they do not give us gents the credit we deserve when we save the household budget by doing our own repairs.

Hehe...That's by design. Women know we already have inflated heads and love to pound our chests when we accomplish things. They know to not feed the ego.

Just this weekend I spend both days in the driveway giving my sons new '95 Mustang GT some TLC and swapping parts off his totaled GT (rear ended at a red light) He was at weekend drills with the SC Army Guard all weekend and could not spend the time. I saved him hundreds if not thousands in labor and had a good time doing it.
