I guess I've been spoiled by internet shopping

So...

I needed a short piece of 3 X 2 Hot Rolled Steel Tubing for a project I have going. No biggie, but to make it mate with an existing piece I really need the inside width to be about 1.85 which equals a 14 gauge wall thickness.

I tried my local sources. Nothing. I tried further away sources. Nothing. So, I got online and found exactly what I needed in about 10 minutes of searching. Even with a supplier I've used in the past that shipped to me pretty quickly (Metals Depot).

That was Friday at 8:30 in the morning. Today is Tuesday and they still haven't shipped it yet. I contacted them and they said they are so busy orders take 3 days to prepare to ship, unless I want to call customer service and pay more for expedited delivery.

sigh. I just hope they get it to me by Friday so I can work on this over the weekend...but with every hour that passes with no "Your item has been shipped!" email, I fear I might be better off reordering the same piece from another vendor that promises "same day shipping". With my luck though, the ups guy would drop them off on my porch at the same time.

I find that hitting the refresh button over and over while pacing the house and looking out the windows really speeds things up...

I ordered some car parts on Black Friday, hoping to have them installed before we go on vacation. They will arrive the day we leave (or more likely the day after, to be stolen off the porch). Sometimes it is frustrating not everyone is Amazon (yet...)

The Jegs order I placed yesterday will be here tomorrow, so it is what it is. That was standard free shipping, not expedited. And don't expect Amazon to save you either - even when we were Prime members, "2 day shipping" wasn't always. Why we are not Prime members any more. Walmart can do two day and doesn't cost you anything extra.

Yup I rarely need things for a schedule so if it takes a few extra I don’t get aggravated. Recently needed some wine making stuff. Could have driven half hour and paid 2x as much. Just placed one order and two days later it was all here. Love not having to roam Walmart

Home Depot has been on the ball. I priced some Simpson brackets, bolts, etc and they were usually the cheapest if I couldn't find a score on eBay. Just bought a recovery rope...$94 on Amazon or $80 at home Depot.com...free delivery or pick up in store.

I ordered some stuff from Amazon yesterday with prime 2 day shipping, but it was going to be delivered Thursday (3 days). Something else was going to be delivered Friday, so I just made my Amazon day Friday and I'll take delivery of all of it on the same day

I would appreciate it if they'd be up-front with their shipping policies though. if it's not gonna move for 3 days after it's ordered that's fine, but tell me up front.

Ha...well I got an email from their customer service committing to getting it shipped yet today.

I also ordered a similar piece from Amazon (prime) for backup. It's 12 gauge, which I might be able to make work if I have to.

Hopefully one or both of them will make it here by the weekend...because I'd really like to work on this project this weekend.

Hey...it could be worse though. In my real job I just ordered a $100 part we use about 5 or 6 times a year, and I'm down to 2 on the shelf. They quoted 34 to 35 weeks for delivery. I called them back to confirm "weeks" was a typo as they had to really mean "days". Nope. They're backed up. 8 or 9 months lead time....and they now require a minimum order of 30.

Sheesh.
