I had this crazy idea.

[I wasn't sure which forum this should be in. "Free Parking" seems to be a catch-all for general conversations from WTF, to jury duty, to hurricane Ian. But FP is described as "Everything related to the toys we park in our garages. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, jetskis, etc...". That said, this post is about tools, not a vehicle. Here goes.]

My wife had this nut and screw driver set that may have come from her father when we cleaned out his house when he sold it. Whatever, it's a rather cheap set, but handy, especially with a metal box.
However, the thin plastic insert was crumbling and could not hold the pieces in place.
I could have just chucked it, or dumped it into a drawer. But I had this can of spray foam, almost used up. 💡
It looks like hell underneath, but on the surface, I couldn't be more pleased. Nice and firm! A good trial run for a fix I may need later.
I wonder if anyone else has thought of this.

Show us what you did in your moment of genius.

I’m confused what you‘re showing me.
I think you took the plastic tray, turned it upside down, and spray foamed the bottom of it? This provided support so it wouldn’t be supporting the weight of the tools.
if I’m right….great idea. Nice save of an older set of tools.

LOL.😁
YES. Looks terrible. BARF.
But it saved that box. I don't have to look at it so, great end result. If you look real close, you can see how many places that plastic insert was cracked.
Could be a great proactive treatment for non-cherished valuable tool set. Feel free to imitate. Show me what you've done when the genius bulb went on.

I did the same thing to my Knipex snap ring set that came in a vacuformed tray. Made it rock solid!
