Yep, I have problems with them too.....and not just with this. They have tunneled under my driveway and now my garage slab and caused all sorts of settling problems, and they're tough to get rid of......

I trapped and relocated about 20 of them one season, and the next season there were as many or more around my house. Cute to look at but a real problem.

I'm going to set bait this spring, I'm done with being Mr. Eco-weenie nice guy.

Most f'd up thing I've ever seen was a chipmunk eating the head of another chipmunk. It had chewed through the back of it's skull and was working it's way through the head. Made one of my laborers get rid of the victim, wasn't getting near that sh!t. Disgusting.

.177 Pellet Gun puts them right to sleep.

I prefer a .22 pellet gun

We "had" a ton of those little guys that were digging in all the landscaped beds along with always being one day ahead of us in the garden. I tried large rat traps, but decided to take a more fun approach via an air gun. Started small with a simple Crosman pumper and upgraded last year to a nice PCP gun that allowed for longer shots. 18 and counting this past year. We shall see how many pop up this spring.

Lol I had possums under the house once and trapped/relocated three of them. The next year it was squirrels in the attic, I dispatched them instead.

Don't relocate. In most states it is actually illegal. But even more, don't pass the problem to someone else.

It's unbelievable how many trespassers I have to kill every year. My favorite is skunks. Why do so many wild animals want to live with me?

My old dog Boomer ( I use his name because I still miss him after 10 years) used to chase the chipmunks all over the place. He would chase them up the corner molding on the vinyl siding and sit there for hrs waiting for them to come out. He even chewed the molding to get at them. He would come in exhausted after " hunting them". One time he even caught one. The day after he died it was like they all knew because they were running all over the place. They don't seem to bad now because of the neighbors cat. Ed, Boomer.

#2 on what pop pop said, plus unless you relocate them 10 or so miles away they will come back.

I had fun with the little bastards myself. I have 4 acres in country. we shoot all the time. I started with my 22 rifle, then said the heck with it. got out my 12 ga. much easier. Can get them up in trees and on the run. Everyday I would go out and hunt around the yard. in a month and a half, I wiped out over 100 of the little buggers. My ol lady would even spot em for me. She would let me shoot right out of a house window. I would sit in back bedroom with window open just watching. then when they popped their head up, blam!! one less! I had fun with it.

The little monsters ate the 4wd right out of my GMC last year. It's a 2003 and there is a big space underneath the fuse/relay box under the hood, and they got in there and ate up the wiring to the fuse block. The selector on the dash said the transfer case was in neutral while I was driving down the road. Took it to my trusted local shop, and after replaceing the selector panel and the actuator motor, they gave up and sent me to the dealer(no charge).
Dealer wanted $450 in parts and a couple hundred more in labor to fix it. I paid for the diagnosis and had to spend about 5 hours splicing wires. The next week they more to the point it wouldn't start. That weekend I got a new .22 Marlin, and a big box of Decon.

At first I was taking them to my place about 20 miles out in the country, but I got tired of driving that far, so I took the rest to a big city park about 5 miles away.

Boomer sounds like he was an awesome dog, a good ole fashioned dog vs squirrel standoff that lasts for months at a time! He was probably so surprised when he caught that one that he didn't know what to do.

My welder generator was starting to act like a real dog found out why
air box and filter full of nuts and what looks like weed seeds
thought it was bad enough when they found the air box on my truck

I love chipmunks...of course.

I used to have similar feelings toward everything but when you "cast aside your predelictions" (step outside of yourself) you realize that nature (bugs and critters) gonna do what they need to do to survive and you shouldn't contribute to their "extermination". This is just the way I am now. You don't need to join or even listen to my feelings but...these "kill everything I don't agree with living" feelings contribute to how things that are above human treat humans. At some point you will be on the receiving end and trust me you don't want to be there.

Of course humans are on the top right. I suppose if there was something above human in some way they could mask themselves as humans and you'd be none the wiser...just consequence or fate. I can tell you directly that's not the case. Maybe one day the chipmunks will free the humans.

I kill them because they're destroying my habitat - I have $10 of thousands in damage to repair because of them, what do you suggest I do about that?

I believe in live and let live - I don't live in their habitat, as long as they stay out of mine, I'm good with them.....

Rodent infestations ****. I have two jihad cats full time and three semi-feral strays we have enticed to setting up permanent residency at Chez Flivver. Cats do the do naturally and also keep an eye on rats, mice, snakes etc. When I lived up north we had red squirrels which were even worse. I keep the cats fed, vetted and healthy and they get to fawn and be sweet to people and slaughter all infiltrators indiscriminately. My dogs **** at pest control. We may get some llamas again for bigger critters, they declare jihad on anything that aught not to be there. Interesting beasts.

I have had a tremendous amount of damage from chipmunks.
I tried rat traps--works sometimes, and all the other suggestions.
I finally found a more humane way--
I have several gutter down spouts extensions (round corrugated type) and when I see one, nine out of ten times, when they see me, they go inside the downspout.
I hurry and stuff a towel into the pipe. I then spray about five seconds of starting fluid where the extension meets the gutter downspout.
I use the little extension.
Never had one that didn't go to sleep PERMANENTLY.
They will also run into a downspout laid flat against a wall. Just stop up one end.

With a plug and an ingnitor you could relocate them several houses away, on fire!

^^^ I love this plan. I hate the little bastiges. I've had thousands of dollars of damage caused by them over the years. I've had cars, trucks, lawn mowers, bikes, buildings about everything I've owned damaged by them at one time or another. I bought a new John Deere 5400 tractor in 97. The dealer delivered it while I was out of town at work. They parked it beside my shop. When I got home a week later I went out to do some mowing. My new tractor wouldn't start. WTF? Called the dealer. Mechanic came out. A week later after he cleaned out all the acorns, replaced the wiring harnesses and presented me with a $3000 bill, my new tractor was new again. **** em, nuke em all.
